Well that sucks, but maybe you should have had someone with a legitimate registration drive you around until you were clear to drive. I don't agree with the "driving is a privelage bullshit" the states spew, but unfortunately that's the way it is. You did get lucky the night before, the cop could have towed your shit out of your driveway and took you to jail. You pressed your luck one more time and got caught, you're the only one to blame.
