  • Pet Question

My cocker spaniel mix is heading to the groomer on Friday but he has this anxiety issue where when I leave, he turns from a docile, lazy and fat baby to a black ball of fury that will chew at the cage he's in and try to eat anyone who comes close. Is there anything I can give him to calm him down?

benadryl, put a pill on a dog treat slathered with peanut butter. They'll wolf it down without noticing. That's what we do with our black lab.

        He needs more socializing.

That means I'd have to be socializing

                Couple beers should relax him.

My dog loves going to the groomers so I don't have any idea. Has he had a bad experience at a groomer before?

Take him to the dog park if you have one, you don't have to talk to the people there, lots of people at ours just walk the perimeter of the fence while the dogs play.

Yes, he tried to eat the groomer through the muzzle last time

I meant has he been to a shitty groomer that treats them bad, I've had several friends who experienced this at the pets mart groomers. I know my parents dog used to love going then they blow dried him to save time and he didn't want to go back in that place for 6 months lol.

The first couple of times he went to the groomer they wouldn't let me have him back until after 6pm no matter what time I showed up. I discovered they were drugging him to work on him and didn't want me to find out so they let him sleep it off before I got there.

Just do it yourself, buy some grooming shit at Petsmart and go to town on him! it's hair, it'll grow back if you fuck it up.

There is some truth in doing it yourself. I think a good set of clippers run 100-200 if I remember right. We had 2 dogs and those clippers paid for themselves in the first couple of times. Of course, we just shave them.

I cut my dogs hair in the summer to a shave look like a lab and he loves it

Being a water dog that is

Dramamine and benadryl or go to a health store and get sunshine oil. It is a melatonin mix that you can put on a piece of bread and feed it to him. It should help mellow him out a lot. I used to use it with my coonhound whenever I had to take him anywhere. That stuff worked great.
