Kroger (and I think Wal Mart) sell boxes of 'Wright's Brand Bacon Ends & Pieces', and they are perfect to use in beans. I buy a box, divide in to freezer bags, and toss them in the freezer til I'm ready to use them.

That said, I have a massive hambone in my fridge, from the best ham you'll ever eat, and I'm going to cook a pot with it one day this week. Which reminds me, I need to go pick up my crock pot, dammit.
