  • 10/22 vs Marlin 795

Thoughts? Getting ready to buy a 10/22 and have seen this argument pop up a bit. I have shot a 795 and feel that its shoots well. I have never shot a 10/22 but its reputation preceds it. Current starting price for a 795 synthetic stock is $149 and 10/22 wood stock $199 (Academy Sports). Modification capability aside does the 10/22 shoot 5o bucks better than the 795?

I would go 10/22 due to aftermarket support. 10/22 breakdown at that, and get the barrel threaded for a surpressor, get high cap mags, throw a micro dot on it.

I would say the 10/22 is a hundred bucks better.

a takedown model will run you ~350 but it's a solid gun. I sold mine a while back, and picked another up this weekend. love that little bastard.

Yeah there is no way 350 is in my budget right now lol. I have a bead on wood stock model with extended mag and optic for 180 right now, and I wouldn't say I'm terribly interested in modifying it much if at all.

I dunno if I would buy a used 10/22, you never know how much someone has shot it. With .22 being so cheap it may have seen tens of thousands of rounds.

The takedowns came out around the time that ammo became unobtainium, so I would consider one.

I can agree with that, but his post said he had a line on a wood stocked rifle for $180. My guess is it is a standard carbine with a bunch of rounds down the tube.

Yeah it is not a takedown, I know the guy selling it and he said he shot it pretty moderately. I'll definitely be checking it out but I don't have reason to beleive they burned through the barrell or are trying to gyp me in any way.

I wasnt really debating that, just that the takedown wouldnt necessarily have that same connotation. That's why I quoted you and not him.

They offer factory threaded barrels also.

No comparison, 10/22 is a staple.

10-22 all day. I prefer the non takedown for more barrel options.

Yeah I'm not getting a take down. I think they are cool and useful but thats just not happening right now. I was looking at the popoose for take down also, but thats way down the road.

Does Ruger make threaded barrells or is that all aftermarket?

I'm pretty sure the tactical model has a threaded barrel with a birdcage style flash hider.
