  • xmas gift for me

My parents apparently are snagging me a Ruger single action convertible (45LC CYLINDER plus an interchangeable 45ACP CYLINDER). My wife wants to get me something for cheap... I told her I would love a lever action 18-20" barrel in .357 (ammo price) or .30-.30. I'd also LOVE any WWII bolt action rifles. Preferably a K98K or Enfield. Not into the Yugo Mauser's or Nagant's. I'd also settle for a nice home defense 18-18.5" barrel shotgun in semi auto. We are getting financially stable but and things are looking up. (early this year after job change, I had to sell all my guns but my old SWAT Glock 35 and Colt 1911 my FIL gave me). Pics range will be under 450...

Any of y'all gun collectors that have any of these lmk. I'll end up buying whatever and then wrapping it for myself from my wife lol. Used or new idc. I also don't give a shit about matching serials. It will be a shooter. Cabelas has a K98K rechambered in 7.62 (unknown other details) today for $399.99... That piqued my interest hard. But it was missing the cleaning rod and the conversion to a different caliber scared me. The rest of the Mauser's were m44 Yugo's...

Run this by y'all.. Basically looking at a 1. JM stamped 1972 marlin 336 lever action with scope (30-30) or 2. New marlin 336 with scope (30-30). Ooor 3. German Mauser K98K miss matched bolt (8mm). Which would u choose? Which has more value. All three in excellent condition.

Easiest way at a glance (if you have iphone..maybe on droid..not sure) is just get AmmoFinder app. It uses several sites to gather pricing information for a lot of different calibers.

.30-30 won't be ball ammo. The cheap stuff is all flat nosed soft point. You don't want pointy stuff bumping into primers in a tube magazine.

True. My bad. I was never a hunter. And I LOVE cowboy guns as much as I love WWII rifles. So this decision Is tough for me. A true German Mauser (not Yugo) vs a Marlin 336 lever action. want to get a rifle that will be a delight to shoot plus eventually hunt boar/deer with. So its basically 8mm vs 30-30...

I thought long and hard; looked at several websites; and watched numerous videos. I met a board member who sells firearms and we discussed the marlin. I ended up doing some research and found academy sports had a one weekend only sale on 336 lever guns. So, I bought a new marlin. Love it. Looking forward to putting holes in paper/stuff. Now I need to find a cheap outlet of 30-30... Here she is.

I bought it sunday the 15th. I added the bullet carrier and the scope rail and next, I'll grab a decent red dot. Not needing a heavy scope at this time.

Could not replace that lever action feel. Sorry, it was close to 50-50 on mauser vs lever. I have always wanted a real lever gun with a pistol/rifle cartridge. No .22lr. That is all... I'll update when I find some ammo and also shoot it. Only have 60 rounds from walmart.

Tanner, it might not be the cheapest stuff out there, but get some Hornady LeverEvolution ammo for it. You'll be glad you did.
