Thanks for the info! I'ma gun noob..Learning fast though. I just wanted to make sure that my springs wouldn't loosen up if I just left them fully loaded in my .40 and my AR10.
I researched on the net with too many mixed reviews.

Same here. I'm not sure why having the correct answer and sharing it makes me a dick but some people sure seem to think it does. I'm not even rude about it.

I value knowing the right answer in any situation, and I generally assume others do too. Apparently I assume wrong.

I was told by a gunsmith that it's a good idea to keep 1 or 2 rounds less than maximum load for each mag (as stated above).

Also, what Jose said holds good advice too. Rotating mags between loaded and unloaded is not a bad idea, assuming you have copious amounts to work with.

I know quite a few people who know giant amounts about firearms (gun smiths, instructors, competitors), but still refer to all mags as clips. So I will have to disagree on the knowledge part of it, but I do understand that it makes someone look a little silly.

I can't say I've ever met anyone with any knowledge that doesn't know the proper word for it.

Haha... go big or go home!

I may not have owned many but I've shot and been around my share. I had a double barrell shottie and a couple of .22s, sold them in my pot smokin' days for a sack..

How many do you think we're talking about?

I rotate through 2 of 5 mags once a month (for my .45). So two a month isn't going to tear up your thumbs.

Filling a 30 rd magazine for an extended period of time can weaken the spring, the most I would keep in them would be 28. Now if you want to leave these for years then I'd say no more than 25.
