About the same price as anywhere else. I picked up a Western Digital Green 2TB drive for $129 a couple weeks ago. I almost ordered through newegg but it was the same price.

Yeah, I found a guy who sold me (2) WD 1TB Green for $60 and they are brand new. I tried to find a Caviar Black and might as well just have asked to be face raped.

what we need are cheaper ssd's.

Yes. Also needed to replace all drives in data centers if possible, if for nothing else - their reliability.

Noise, heat, power consumption, reliability, speed...

Xiotech (or XIO) has started making they ISE SANs in a hybrid format, where the first couple of drives are SSD, and the rest are traditional HDDs. They are incredibly fast.

Funny, 2 SSDs (from different manufacturers) I bought with Sandforce controllers died\bricked within a few months..... I have yet to have a serious problem with any HDD I've ever purchased.

It's been a problem I've seen a lot of, one of the primary reasons I still haven't switched over. The OCZ's have had a bad rep for failures.

I haven't had a problem with my 128 GB Cruical SSD.

I don't think Crucial uses Sandforce controllers, although I could be wrong about the most current drives as I haven't looked at them in a while.

Stay away from Sandforce based drives my friends....

SSDs do fail. The business class ones are so expensive because they have 100% redundancy in the chips on the board (ie. a 256g drive has 512g of storage and as chips go bad the data is automigrated to the other chips).

That said, I can't use a computer without an SSD any more. It makes an incredible amount of difference
