  • Has anyone here had your cabinets refaced?

I started the process of stripping and staining our existing cabinets, and soon realized that I have no desire to finish the project myself. Partially because of the amount of time/labor involved, but also because it felt like pissing up a rope working on the "cheap" spec home cabinets from the 80's.

The long-term plan is to sell this house in another 5 years or so, so I don't know that a full-on remodel would be the most cost-effective route, and in reading about refacing, this looks like it might fit the bill, assuming that the end-result won't look cheap or off-putting to potential buyers. Basically, if it's good enough for us to live with, it'll be fine to sell.

Anyone here have any first-hand experience with the end result that they can share?

Doesn't Home Depot sell a gel stain that doesn't require extensive sanding? I think all you do is scuff the surface a little.

        Rustoleum

Super time consuming because of all the surfaces, coats, and drying time. Very easy though.

What color did you use? Or is it just a dark and light kit?

What we used. Was also in the stripping process and gave up. Have someone else finish and redomodel the bathroom. Stripping is a pain using that gel. It just the time to take blading off the paint.

How long would you say that it took you to finish the job?

I appreciate the advice/experience, but I've pretty much decided that I don't want to lift another finger on this particular project, and will likely farm out a lot of the work to be done in the bathrooms too. If these were decent cabinets and a house we'll be in for a while, I might still tackle it myself, but my time is worth more to me at the moment.
