  • How do you repair support poles in front of house?

I have 3 white poles that hold up the front porch area, the bottom of them is black with parts missing is their anyway you can repair just the bottom piece on those and not repair the whole thing?

Cut the bottom out if its rotted and build up some bricks or a cemet block.

My old house was liek this and the wood for the pillars was rotted out.
I made cemet block to the proper size and hieght and wedged it back in... Shim it, paint, and your done...

brace the porch on either side of the pole, remove the and replace the pole, then remove the braces. Repeat on each support pole.

Replace with anything you want, from wood to metal, etc.

This sounds like the safest/best advice.

so chainsaw remove or reciprocating saw?

it is supporting the entire porch

And it does look like its wrapped around but the bottom of the pole is just rotted out a lot but do not think it is anything to worry about just looks gross.

Anyway to replace just the bottom piece or does it have to be whole thing?

You could probably notch it and replace just the bottom, but it would be more work for poorer results. Just brace it like mentioned above and replace.

On your other question I would probably grab the reciprocating saw with a blade long enough to cut all the way through rather than the chain saw. Either will work. Is this a post from the dirt to the porch deck or concrete slab to roof?

Does the roof show any sign of sag? first you need to pull a string along the facia to determine how straight it is. Next find your high side (with a level/ laser)
take 1 2x4 stud and make a kicker (support post) cut short enough you can get a jack under it. put tension on the post with the jack and remove old post. jack up to match string line and get measurment and then cut it an 1/8th longer. it will settle under pressure. repeat till your done. if you need help and in the plano area i can come help ya
