  • Iran envoy: We could hit US forces anywhere in world if attacked

    http://http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4.../#.TzKE8a6S7QE

How long before someone shuts these people up? I give it another year

DUBAI — Iran is capable of hitting U.S. military forces anywhere in the world if attacked by the United States, its ambassador to Moscow was quoted as saying at a news conference on Wednesday.

Reuters reproted that Russia's Interfax news agency quoted Seyyed Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi saying the United States would be making a mistake if it carried out a military strike on Iran, although Washington has announced no such plans.

"The Americans know very well what Iran is like and what our potential is," Sajjadi was quoted as saying in Moscow. "Iran is in a very good position to deliver retaliatory strikes on America around the world ... An attack on Iran would be suicidal for them."

The ambassador's reported comments came as Western sanctions appeared to tighten a financial noose around Iran.

Tension with the West rose last month when the United States and the European Union targeted Iranian oil exports in their efforts to halt what they suspect is Tehran's quest for an atomic bomb.

Malaysia has halted palm oil exports to Iran because of payments problems and Asian oil buyers have cut crude purchases.

Traders in China said they would cut iron ore purchases from Iran, which are worth over $2 billion a year, because of sanctions that have forced payment defaults on Indian rice imports and prompted Ukrainian and European sellers to stop booking shipments of Ukrainian grain to the Middle East country.

Iranian energy minister Rostam Qasemi said Wednesday that Iran should invest in renewable energy to preserve its oil and other hydrocarbon reserves.

Iran's renewable sector is tiny, as in much of the Middle East where investments have been focused on building energy-hungry industry fuelled by cheap oil and gas.

Obama: Diplomacy preferred solution' with Iran
Iran's pressing need to reduce its own gas and oil use has also been the driving force for building the country's first nuclear power plant so that it can export more fuel, , according to Reuters.

"Reliance on hydrocarbon resources in the long run is neither possible nor meets national interests," oil ministry news website Shana reported Qasemi as saying in a statement.

"Gradual reduction of oil consumption on the one hand and a revolutionary and swift move toward using renewable energies on the other hand are the only appropriate mechanisms which can help the country," Shana reported him as saying in a statement delivered to the National Energy Conference in southern Iran.

China, the world's second-largest oil consumer and Iran's biggest customer, has been courting Saudi Arabia as it scours the globe for alternative oil supplies to replace a fall in its imports from Iran, while Korean and Japanese leaders have toured the Gulf looking for backup supplies.

Yup, but not forever. Too much oil to let this go on for too much longer.

And the entire country of Iran could be vaporized in 30 minutes..... so what?

The large majority of the religious\political leadership of that country suffer from an unending little Napoleon Complex with a little latent homosexuality thrown in....

This is what I see and it may be going a little far into the future but none the less, just a thought:

Say Iran and well everyone else eventually does get nuculear weapons. Well there are some countries that will respect this and work together to get things done seeing as each one has the same capability. These are the "adults"

Then there are the countries (several) that would be like giving a 5 year old a loaded gun right after letting them play COD. Pray and hope that they do not shoot your ass. But remember, like kids people can sense that 'weakness' and exploit, "everytime I cry I get what I want syndrome so why stop".

Well eventually you have to give in or take over. Reason being is if we want to continue to advance as a civilization we have to work together. Most countries out there who do not have sanitaion, TV's in every house, freedom of speach, freedom of action...etc will jump at the opportunity to overtake the big boys, to become the dictator. This is why we as society cannot allow everyone and their mom to have nuclear weapons. This is something that our president and the UN do not realize, Iran is that stubborn child who keeps trying to touch daddy's gun and one day they get ahold of it and SHTF. You cannot use dipolmatic sanctions because all it does is slow down their progress however the mindset and goal are not altered.

We must act and act swiftly before they influence any additonal allies (Russia) into this fantasy idea that they are not trying to obtain nuclear weapons, that they are not trying to be a "dictatorship" amongst the world. Although they already are within their boundries.

You have Hugo down in Venezuela, well you know he backs Iran. This could be a cold war in the making again. Iran using VZ to stage and prepare...amongst other things

What are they going to say? "If you attack us, we will launch some ineffective missiles at people in our area but have no way of directly attacking the US?"

They could, but any country that a launch is detected from would have hell to pay.

Like the previous poster said and what you said are indeed correct. What the American public needs to understand is these are not going to be like a grenade going off, it's going to kill a lot of people. IF and only IF the public understands that - then they would be capable of understanding military leadership. (and why they'd want to be aggressive)

The problem is most people don't have a clue. I've seen the aftermath and I've seen real time what rockets and such do - but never been exposed to what a real missle/bomb would do as it happened. (Other than on youtube, Predator feds and such - all just "TV" to me) With that knowledge, I understand that "conventional" warfare is still deadly.

I think a lot of Americans don't sweat it, cause it is not a "WMD". However, normal warheads can still fuck you up and those threats need to be taken just as seriously. If Iran were to sucker some fools into launch 5, 10, 20+ of those into our country - retaliation or not, it would do some damage.

In our current situation, we need to be careful though. In my mind, the best way to stop that from happening is to make any country considering it - really not want to do it. However, I think most realize we're in a shitty spot with our debt and all. We have what it takes, but not the moola to do so right now.

Just my thoughts on it, probably all messed up.

If they wanted to send a message, they would attack one of our many bases in Qatar or UAE. There are tens of thousands of Americans at these places and would be a lot easier to target than the US mainland. I don't think they're going to do shit either way though.

Maybe that is what they meant when they stated they could hit us...

As Mr. MikeC stated, its not going to happen so why worry....but it is a thought
