  • noob wants to auto x an SVO

Picked up an SVO resently and want to start auto x'ing. Where is the best groop for a noob like me to get involved in in North Texas? My car has a few mods, like a front mount ic, header, exhaust, springs, and sb frame conevtors. From what I hear this will put me in a class I can't be compedative in, but I don't care. I just want to be able to drive the wheels off my car without the risk of jail or hurting someone.
    any advice welcome.

...does not get much more laid back really. Last I raced, just needed a helmet and pass a basic tech inspection.

They have a nice briefing outlining all the rules, most/all people there are helpful regardless of what you're driving and the "staff" is really helpful as well.

Recommend starting at a Mineral Wells event. A little more wide open and such. Just pick a turn that is short small, cause it can be a big area when you're running for cones after every driver.

The reason I stuck with BMW club and maybe y'all can confirm is - because the NTS2K club is a little more formal with everything.

That was the feedback I got when I was considering some of their races for weekends I was available - but not available for a BMW event.

Basically - same concept as BMW club, just more formal and sometimes over done on reprimands for mistakes/errors/DNF offenses. Admittedly, I never participated with them - so I can't be sure and am only asking.

I plan on doing this as well 4bangen, whenever I get mine back together. I have not checked the date lately, but the event Mach1 is putting on in Mineral Wells would be a good start, I think.

I also want to do BBORR, but that is a bigger step.

That has been my dream, but I hear those have been canceled.
Do you, or anyone, know if that is true?

I have a friend that runs the Silver State Classic every year. Sounds like fun, but wow it's pricey

Robert, it shows to still be running. I would love to do the Silver State as well, but you are correct in that it is even more expensive. I tried to get a friend to take his supercharged Z06, but could never get the times to work. He has since sold it. I still think it would be neat as hell, and my slow SVO might do well, once I get all these parts on, and lined out.

I don't see the big deal? It's no where near as modded as my ranger, and I'm only running 18psi. I don't see the big deal, hell I beat the snot out of it on a daily basis as of now.

I'm not sure he is going with that. I think you can autocross for cheap in an SVO with the caveat that you will have fun, but there are now many cars that handle well from the factory, much less when tweaked. I don't think you will go and just amaze everyone, which is what some people think. I plan on auto crossing mine, but it would not fit into any simple class, as by that time it will only have a few SVO parts other than the shell. It is not being built specifically to autox.

If he chimes back in, there will be several reading to see his perspective. He seems to have a significant experience with our beloved 4 pots, but I'm not sure what all, as I don't know him. The last several questions I've asked went unanswered.

                              Good luck!
