Aaaah. Methanol actually has less chemical energy than gasoline does. We run it because it's a more stable fuel, and has a really high octane rating (118-120). For instance, I see a lot of people saying they set their timing at 10* base with an undetermined amount of advance. I set my timing at 34* base, with no advance.

Edit: I see people set 10* base on street cars running pump gas. I've got no clue what the avgas/racing gas guys set theirs at.

Edit: On a good note, I'm only averaging 1 destroyed car every other year. So 2012 should be a good year for me, I tore one up in '10 and haven't raced yet in '11.

You're good then !! I've never raced dirt but I have a buddy who got tired of drag racing and decided to buy a ascs car, so I saw all the money he was spending. He had never raced a dirt car either, so it was definitly interesting.

What's his name? There are a TON of people that spend boatloads of cash buying the latest and greatest equipment and have no idea how to make use of it. I've been doing this for 6 years and I'm still getting taken to school on learning new tricks in both driving and setup.

I'm sprint car ignant' so explain how it was idling with the rear tires on the ground? Thought there weren't transmissions in those cars?

There isn't, but there's a coupler in the rear end. You can have it in or out of gear, those are your two options. And it gets really fun if you have to stop in a hurry (it's not going to happen, but you can try.) If there's any load on the drivetrain, it's not coming out of gear, so what you have to do is accelerate a bit, put pressure on the shifter lever, then when you lift it will slide out of gear and you can stop.

From when I got the front end tore out of it? Yeah, it was done that night before we left the track lol. Changing a front end is 4 bolts, 2 shocks, and 1 brake line. There are teams that can have a front end changed in 3 minutes. Of course, their brake line has dry breaks on them so they don't need tools, nor will they need to bleed the brakes, but yeah, it's really simple. I even fixed the nose wing. That took a little fabrication though.
