Yeah, I will definitely listen to y'all and just take a few dry runs down the track to get a feel. I know I'll end up getting nervous at the line, even if I try not to.

Once you get a little stressed or feel rushed you can easily make a mistake and damage your car, hurt yourself, or even hurt others. All we are saying is until you get used to the process don't worry about actually "racing".
I couldn't have put it better myself. Some of the best advice that was said in this thread. Take ur time and get use to it.

Don't worry about reaction time your first couple passes. Just get up there and get comfortable... worry about driving your car more than getting a good reaction. Once you get your et and mph's consistent... then work on my fine tuning your driving skills... how far to roll into the beams, launch rpm, when to leave the tree ( different for every car and driver) and proper shift points.

Only if you're running faster than 8.50 I believe.. or 14.00 in the 1/4.

If you do better than a 2.3 60' your first time out I'd be impressed.

Remember the rev limiter is there to let you know when to shift... so wait for it
