What does a 20+ year old pushrod motor have to do with the RPMs a brand new OHC engine can safely turn?

It's a Ford product. Seems like a sensible question.

That boss intake looks pretty bad ass.

Here's a link with a pic of the bottom side. It doesn't look like there's much room for porting aside from a little cleanup.

I think it's $750 (and I guess + tax would make it $810ish) at HPP. I don't even have a mustang at the moment, but if all I were doing were a cold air kit and tuner, I'd be ok with saving $200. If I were gonna do anything more custom than that - or wanted to run E85, then I'd definitely want a local dyno tuning session. Or if I were trying to squeeze that extra .004 out of my ET.

But lets not kid ourselves and think that these shops that do canned tunes, have no experience behind their tunes. Sure, there are some fly by night operations out there, but if you stick with American Muscle/Bama, Evolution Performance/Jon Lund, or Blow By Racing, or a few of the other 'big name' shops, you're likely to get a pretty close to dead on tune for your car.
                This.
i have no doubts about Manny's tuning ability. But right now i dont feel like i can justify the $ for a custom tune on the dyno. Will i make the absolute MAXIMUM hp on a canned tune? probably not. But whats the difference? 3-5 hp? ill save the $300+ for something else.

Another day, another e85 tune. Auto 5.0...longtubes, cold air, boss intake and a HPP E85 tune. 439rw. After we installed the boss intake, and finished the tuning..the customer took the car out for a spin. He commented how good the throttle response was just pulling it off the dyno. From what I hear..he was also happy with the way it pulled at wot. Those are the kinda results you get with a custom tune made perfect for your car!

depends on the return on the dollar...

                      if you're talking about $300 for 30hp vs. $900 for 32hp, I'm spending $300...

it just depends on what people want and what they're willing to spend.

Right! How much more power could HPP get over my BBR tune for $400?

I don't know ANYTHING about these cars or the tunes, but I'm well versed in bang for the buck when it comes to tunes! I come from the diesel world where I can add 200+hp to a truck in 10 minutes for under $300 LOL

At least with a custom tune you have the piece of mind knowing your O2's are not having to work their butt off to keep your mail order tune running good.( Who cares if its adding 60% of fuel at idle I saved some coin!)

Either way these are some nasty production cars. I cant wait for a high compression all motor build!

Not sure if the can tune companys do life time tunning, I know Manny does life time tunes so when you chage things up you just pay for dyno time.
