  • NMRA at Norwalk

We were planning to do the Powertour this year, but some last minute (and persistent) issues with the wagon convinced me to throw in the towel on this one. However we already had plans to visit some family in Wisconsin after the end of the tour (next week), and since I'm already off work for a few weeks we're going to keep that trip, and just drive up in the F150 instead.

I was looking online and realized that the annual NMRA event at Norwalk Ohio is this coming weekend, and since the timing is about perfect for our trip up, we're going to go for it! It's a bit of a detour, but we've got plenty of time....the folks in Green Bay aren't expecting us until next Tuesday anyway.

I've heard this is usually a good event...drawing a lot of racers out of that whole Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, etc. areas. Was just wondering if anyone has been to that one in the past? We're actually staying in Sandusky...looks to be a decent place to visit as well.

Yup, Sandusky is only about 20 miles north. I managed to get a room through work at $99/night...looks to be a pretty decent place.

FWIW - Overall was a pretty shitty event for watching racing....decent midway for the vendors and the car show was good....saw some really rare stuff like a couple R-code cars, a real thunderbolt, Gulf GT, etc....but they friggin killed us with about 6 straight hours of bracket racing. The true street class was HUGE, and there were some strong contenders there....some chick in a calypso coupe out of Florida was killing it mid-8's, and a couple other fox body cars not far off, but a shit ton of 11, 12, 13 sec cars.

John Urist brought the old red foxbody out and went 7.03 @ 203 on a 10.5W. There was another guy in that class that ran a 6.98 @ 197, but those were the highlight of the day. There was a strong new edge car in the Renegade class that looked promising, but stood it on the bumper out to about the 330 and then came down hard and into the wall...sucked for those guys.

Nevertheless, we didn't bother going back for the finals on Sunday b/c the bracket classes were so packed it was obviously going to be a snoozer for spectators.

Overall from talking to some folks it sounds like the events further south (and especially Atlanta) are the ones to see some of the big dogs.
