  • stock suspension question

when does a suspension stop being stock in reference to rules for racing classes? I know I haven't listed a specific class, I'm just thinking in general what is the norm? I want to make changes to the suspension on my car but I don't want to go down a path that I can't come back from.

Does a bolt on plate like this that moves the upper control arm location get considered stock suspension or not?:

What about these weld-on lower brackets:

What about drilling extra holes in the lower control arm plates that are on the rearend housing?

My understanding for stock suspension mustangs is all factory mounting holes on the body/chassis side and you can have whatever you want on the rear end side.

If you're looking at relocated uppers, I'd be looking at this...its what I run...

who makes that relocation kit? I'm almost dead set on buying Team Z, but yours looks like it has three holes of adjustment in the upper vs team Z only having one hole

Stock suspension around here means stock body holes.

I don't buy in to all that relocated upper stuff but it seems to work for some. There are local cars consistently in the mid teens and quicker with regular arms.

He has a standard relocation kit like the teamz you pictured and has this new kit. Many guys have been in the 1.teen sixty foots on radials with this kit.

Just like what everyone says....stock suspension means that the suspension (control arms) are mounted in the stock location. I actually have those TeamZ lower brackets that you posted at the top. Those brackets will pass stock suspension rules with no problem.

The fact is, a lot of cars with lowered suspensions have those types of relocating brackets. It greatly helps your instant center and helps plant tires better etc.

The lower brackets from TEamZ are pretty awesome, problem is you'll have to build some type of jig that matches up your factory mounting brackets, then cut off your old brackets and weld on the new brackets. If its not perfect you could have issues. So it's really a matter of what you want. The baseline uppers are completely bolt on.

For a 1/3 of the price you can go with metco bolt on lower brackets and or autofab. They bolt on and you can weld if needed.

Team z is the shiz though!

Yep, we had to do the exact thing with mine.

Brooks (turbostang has the jig already made up. He's done a couple sets of these brackets since he did mine. If you decide to go that route you may ask him to weld them on for you. The rear end will need to be out of the car though.

Yes, the Autofab bolt on lower kit is pretty nice as well. It doesn't have anywhere near the adjustment as the TeamZ kit, but it also comes with the control arms since they are a little shorter than the stock length arms.

Kevin at Baseline mentioned to me that he was going to design a lower arm setup as well, but I asked him about it last week and it's on hold for now.

Team Z has my vote. It doesn't get much better than his stuff.

The "only" thing I don't favor with team z is the complete removal & replacement of the control arm mount. While its superior in its design, it's not something the average guy can do in a weekend. Without a rear end jig.

On that note, I wish I would have bought it while building/bracing & powder coating my rear end. Lol

We use and sell both team z and trz so we like them both. We build our own arms but can get anything from the other two companies if interested.
