why dont you get with gene and work something out that works for both of you, instead of putting something there thats going to decapitate someone if they hit it

I'd rather you roll over than to run over me in a cart, too.

maybe you should learn to read....I said on it's side...ie, you would hit the flat bed of the trailer....however, I sort of like your idea of making convertibles...but only if you are in it.

You make it sound like this happens all the time. If it does, then yeah, there needs to be a barrier. Hell, a $2500 shipping container would work GREAT! I am just referring to the ONE time a car MIGHT land on a kid on a Kart. Seems you think that you barrel assing down the 1/4 mile is more important than someone else's life. Shit happens at race tracks, trust me, I know. If you are an adjacent business owner, you do what you have to do to protect your clientele...especially when they are someone's kids....and when the adjacent property owner won't do shit about it and has known the problem exists for at least the last 10 years or more. It was a problem when it was an 1/8th mile track and then they squeezed in a 1/4 mile to make the problem worse. Hence NEGLIGENCE on the part of NSD...just sayin'.

Get a grip dude. You are starting to melt a piston apparently about something a little too close to home?

Since when is Northstar a quarter mile? Didn't they move the starting line way back a few years ago? Giving racers more shut down area? That should have helped the issue.

They didn't make it a 1/4 and they are still going over the fence?! WOW!

guess i should learn to read, didnt see that you said "put it on its side"....i guess you can do what you think u can get away with......im just saying you would be alot better off digging a hole and filling it with peegravel than your going to do by standing an object up thats sure to kill someone, sounds to me like you have a problem with us people that drag race there..............obviously you dont have a brain, after all,u are an aggie fan

seems to be an issue that BOTH tracks should compromise on,imho......how bout putting the gravel pit in....stretching some of that orange plastic temporary fencing across it,then if it gets torn down, just string it back up....damn fence isnt going to stop anyone from coming in anyway,as far as a security thing goes.....

Oh, the irony. I think it's more to block cars from coming onto the track and injuring someone.

I may be an Aggie, but I am smart enough to go look at the aerial view of the track on google earth. If the Kart track would put ANYTHING up for a drag car to hit, that car would already have taken out the fucking Armco at the end of the drag strip on NSD property and traveled another 50' or so. Seriously? Maybe they should put a 20 yard dumpster on the Kart track to catch the flying trash and make it easier to tow away? LOL!

Google Earth also shows that there is 1/2 mile of paving (est from tree) at NSD. If they are only still running 1/8th mile, that is 3/8 mile of shut down. If running 1/4, that's 1/4 mile for shut down. Seems unlikely that this would be a problem...but apparently still is for the faster cars, or drivers who fail to get the car whoa'd down. For reference, Texas Motorplex has 1/4 mile track and 1/2 mile for shutdown (also from G.E.), but I am pretty sure that is for the top fuel cars. Maybe they are now running at NSD?

I guess I need to go back and read the original post again to understand how a drag car could end up ON the Kart track which is an entirely separate property separated by an Armco barrier and a short chainlink fence on NSD property. I have personally seen two cars hit that barrier before the track was extended...yeah, I used to run there a lot back in the day. If cars are still hitting that barrier....I'm flummoxed as to how?! Seems unreasonable...but hey, I've seen idiots do stupider things!

edit...re-read the first post while looking at the aerial...so the drag racers are driving around the barriers put in place to stop them...notice I didn't say "DESIGNED" to stop them because they obviously aren't.

Yeah, K-wall the entire fence line and setup lawn chairs....be sure to send the drag racers the bills for repairs.

Sea containers would stop them, and act like a safer barrier. I think they weigh 55-7500 pounds empty

Most of the time the driver is trying to NOT hit the end of the track or has completely lost car control.

Several years ago we tried the water barrels ( Fitch Barrels ) but they are a high maintaince item. The barrels freeze up, loose the water, and have to be several deep, attached to the ground with a series of cables. $$$$$$$$$$
Heck, just filling them would be a huge effort as we only have well water. Enough for the bathrooms but its only a 2 inch well hole with a small pump.

If you look at the track today, all those crappy plastic barrels that we replaced the tires with years ago didn't work to well for Kart barriers. Forgot about the U.V. issue. We are getting rid of them and going back with tire walls. Got to put holes to drain off the water as they collect 'skeeters.

The cost of the Jersey barriers has gotten higher. With semi truck trailer as delivery and a required Crain to put them on the ground. We also need to keep the road between the barrier and the Kart track open so we can't just put big piles of stuff down to stop cars.

Just an F.Y.I. Denton county has NO children ( under 16 ) trama care anymore. Not certified anyway. Per the EMT at Kart track. All club members are now required to have Careflight insurance so we could get a kid to Cooks Childrens in Dallas quickly.

                          Gig 'em !!!

WELL,u do have a point as to how they get through the fence with that much shutdown area,i would think you could let off the throttle at the line and coast to a stop....but i gaurantee you if i lose my brakes for whatever reason,im gonna be driving around your "barrier" to keep from tearing my car up,and just dodge your go carts, how many have been hit anyways in the last 20 yrs that racing has been going on there..?? yeah,i know...ZERO....

I think that's the point. People like you would rather drive around the barrier and onto a kart track and risk injuring or killing someone, possibly a kid, rather than tear up their precious car...Cars can be replaced, someones child can't!

Sounds to me like a barrier needs to be built big enough that nobody can drive around it. Either you stop before the barrier, or you fuck up your car. Those should be the ONLY 2 options!

IT HASN'T.... you say it MIGHT, you find those on monkeys ass's. ya'll go ahead and build u a giant steel wall 5 ft thick that will border the whole drag strip property so nothing can penetrate it,spend $15,000,000.00 to do it,i could give a shit............my whole point was,JUST DIG A FUCKIN HOLE,FILL IT WITH PEE GRAVEL and be done with it,cheapest way out...or u could always move your playground elsewhere
