I'm sure they will be in the low 90's and mid/high 80's this year. That's if the tracks keep getting better with their prep. Ultra would run the other tire so track prep would be even more critical.

I've been to a few races over the years so I feel I know a little about the small blocks in the TeX275 organization and their capabilities.

i figured it was the time/prep thing.. just seems odd that we are .5seconds behind the maryland/georgia/mississippi guys here in texas.

            side note

looks like oklahoma is gaining interest in the next class down:

Give us time. Some of the fastest nitrous cars in the country are from Texas so it will bleed down to the Ultra class. 275 racing has exploded here and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. Remember this is the first year to run Ultra Street in Houston. It will make it up here sometime and there are plenty of cars to make the class work if cars will show up and not complain about the "long" drive to the tracks around here.

Something like, with just a few rules, such as 3200 lbs, small block, single plate system. Where everyone is on the same playing field, and the ones that are competitive are those that are willing to spend the time in the garage, tuning to get it right. Not an index class, just all out drag racing. I can see that being around for a very long time, and would promote drag racing for all.

I think its a nice idea. However, I doubt that it is possible outside of an index race. Straight heads up races will continue to get faster and faster by the big spenders that have the means to do so. Then you are right back to square one.

Look at the TTT5 guys. True street was supposed to be that class and it was for a little bit. Next thing you know line between each class began to blur as everyone that could, found a way to get faster. IMHO the only way to keep that from happenening with any class is to put a cap on it.

Pick your poison. Bitch about being outspent by the big guys who are blowing your doors off or bitch about the fact that index racing is not true heads up racing in a lot of peoples eyes.

Thats exactly right. There is no way to keep it a budget oriented class without putting a cap on it. IMO 5.40 is a good place for a cap as I think that is the NHRA cut off for a 10 point cage.

We tried to have a jet limited class, "Evil Street" down here a couple years ago and it didn't last. Only a couple cars showing up for the events. I won one event with a 5.68@121 vs a 5.53@127 with a .085 jet limit. I treed the snot out of the guy obviously.

I ran my car in Ultra on April 20th, qualified mid field with a 5.67@122.2. I'm jetting up a little and going to bring the progressive in quicker on this next race to see if I can get to the .30s or .40s. #1 qualifier in April was lil Timmy with a 5.37, then AD with a 5.54. Two cars wrecked in the 2nd qualifier and I think one car wouldn't start in the 1st round. I made it to the semi-s never having to race anyone and got a $200 check to cover my weekend of racing. I was happy with that.

I have a 417" 9.2 deck C3 headed combo that was built back in the late 90s. Running at 3100 lbs.
