  • Recall 2004 Mustang?

Has anybody heard of a recall on the 4.6 motors for blowing spark plugs out? Last Night I blew number 4 spark plug out for the Second time in about 3 years. This time unfortunantely it took the threads with it. But evidently from what I read this Happens all the time for 2000-2004 Mustangs and Lightnings.

    Intake on motor only.

I had an 04 for 6 years and 100k miles without issue, and never got a recall notice, but did hear about earlier models with those issues.

And I beat the hell out of that thing too.

I believe they had a TSB out on it. It's a widely known issue with the 2V's. Helicoil will normally take care of it, but it's usually a temporary/band-aid fix. It's important to always use antiseize when installing the plugs, always use correct inch/pound torque when installing, and only remove/install when the heads are cold. You can have the head fixed, and that will be cheaper than buying a new head(s).

Ford re-did the head. part of the problem was there were only like 3-4 threads worth in the cylinder head so the plugs weren't threading in there like they should. too much cylinder pressure would pop them out. it happened in my 01 GT.
the "new" 2V heads have a deeper thread
