    So let me get this straight, these folks spend as much as a modern nhra legal pro stock or top fuel car for a chance to win $0 in prize money? Nhra pays like shit, but atleast 17th-20th non qualifiers get $3k tow money. I guess im not smart enough to understand.

        I might be wrong, but Im fairly certain neither of those cars cost what a gd TF FC or dragster does...

        Espicially not the cost to race one for a few events...

            just cause your fox with $12k runs the same numbers, it does not put it on par with the technology in those cars. at some point you have to realize that the cutting edge will not cut if the blade is 30 years old..

              huh? My fox is slow, Id be happy if it ran 9s with a stick on pump gas, and I have a FUCK ton more in it than 12k... lol. That's about what the turbo kit cost...

              I highly doubt either of these street cars cost what a NHRA top fuel car does... The fuel alone is like 5 grand an event or some shit. And Im fairly certain the motors they blow up every run cost probably over 50 grand a piece.

              I would think these street cars probably have 200-250k in them TOTAL, not nearly the same as a TF NHRA team's ride...

              Grape was just trying to make a point, he just went WAY over the top with his comparisons.

                a top fuel car will use 1, 55 gallon drum per weekend if they make all 8 (4 qual and 4 elim day all the way to the final) passes, the drums are $1400 last time i checked. rods are less than $100 per, blocks are $7k but are welded back together numerous times, cranks new are less than $3k because they are so common. trust me, i've looked into the pricing of this stuff, and knew it off the top of my head when we did the pro stock truck deal 12 years ago. it just proves my point that most want to be the king of nothing and get a trophy just like the fat kid that finished last at his 3rd grade field day.

                  I figured they'd be more, but they do all the work and get the parts highly discoed, so it makes sense its not the same as buying the motors retail. But yea, no rewards in it, just self ful-fillment I guess. I'd rather be rowing gears in a Pro stock car as well vs having a street car that's just as fast and doesn't earn any money, but I'm sure the builders get business benefits and huge write-offs for their shops.
