  • 2001 vortech gt vs cammed transam

    monterrey, mexico i get a call about an hr ago. "hey you wanna race a transam tonight"
    i was just lying around the house any how so "sure" i replied.
    15 minutes later we met up at the local gas station/taco stand/ donkey show
    and headed north

    1st run 40ish punch i break the tires completely loose and get a little squirely. so i let out. went to normal acceleration and the car wouldnt budge. we both pulled over and i was thinkin "oh shit the motor wrapped up pretty fast and maybe i over revved the motor and it was hurt. after better investigating on the side of the highway i notice i blew a hose off so we got it all buttoned again in about 5 minutes and off we were again.

    2nd run 60ish punch we gun it and my car again wants to break loose so i let out a bit and he jumps out in front immediately and as my car starts to pull so does his so i dont make up any ground on him.

    3rd and 4th run were the same
    left at about 65 or 70 .
    on 3 we both leave and his car immediately jumps out at least a car length.
    and then on both runs, once that ground was gained by the t.a. not another inch was gained or loss. dead even.

    i guess you cant win em all. true story

    my car is 400 rwhp vortech 2v 5 spd
    his was "380 rwhp cammed ta auto.
    he said he has ran 7.9 in eighth and i run 7.7 so i dont know what gives.
    maybe sometime we'll hit the track and i can hopefully come out on top??

    none the less. nice car. sucks to lose but props must be made. kudos to the ta

        maybe but from a roll i think its pretty easy to lay into the gas and leave it?

          Could be a gearing issue. What gears did the trans am have?

                3rd gear in those LS1's pull like a mofo. You pull stronger out of the hole, but when he hits third, his car will pull hard. Never figured out what it was about with how well third pulls in those cars.

                      yeah i dont know the guy but if you ever met john who worked at gear heads for a few months there twards the end before everybody got let go, anyway it was one of his friends. he also had a big and little setup on the car i think and i have 18x9 in the front and 18x10 in the back. maybe he'll come out to crandal saturday and i can get my prostars thrown on and run em from a dig?

                        not sure on him. im running 4 10s and have always thought a smaller gear would do me justice in the quarter anyway. not sure about mexico street runs

                          yeah it was crazy. not exaggerating at all but every run . who would jump out a car length or so right off the bat and then quit pulling which led me to believe well i have pulled enough to stop the gap from growing and was anticipating seeing the gap start to close but i never gained an inch. and he never gain one after the first 2 seconds of the runs. weird

                            Supercharged 4.10s with no traction. Makes sense.

                            My car with all 200rwhp cannot grip in the cold or shitass roads. Nice concrete with hot tires it holds good.

                            Get some tires and learn to ease in and out of the throttle and call him again. Btw with 4.10s run a taller tire.

                            320rwhp. 7.67 @ 90mph 1.7 60'
