i think it's the challenge of running the number all natural.

if you have an all motor car that runs 10.00 and a similar car that runs the same number with a bottle...well in my eyes who gives a fuck. but some will argue the guy with the all motor car has the better setup/is better because he accomplished this sans power adder.

now me, i love the idea of boost/spray.

but i can see both sides of the coin. if someone raced me and they have squeeze or a blower and i outrun them then there's something a little more satisfying knowing i did it with no "help".

but OP i've noticed that too..."power adder?" "NO WAY!" like its sacrilege. old school guys.
ive also noticed when your late model cars go on there they either shoot way high or way low (too slow or too fast) because they have no idea

you need to go to an ihra event sometime and feel the sheer violence emanating through the ground from a kasse mountain motor. and the no power adder thing is old school mentality. nothing wrong with it. it's a challenge some people enjoy, especially on making budget builds go fast. i use to feel the same way, until i realized the only way you can make a 4.slow mod motor get out of it's own way is with a power adder.

To make any serious power N/A there are some give and take 'issues'. For instance, the SBM posted aboave - dry sump, mechanical injection, and most likely running on alchohol. Likely has to be at least torn down and inspected 2 times a season - maybe not, but likely so. BIG cam, high compression, lots of RPM...We'll use 950HP for a comparison number. Any good 'streetable' power won't happen like this.

Obviously, I'll use a turbo car for comparison - because it's what I know... but to make that kind of power, I'd use a stock windsor block, decent rods, street heads, hydraulic roller and pump gas. It'll run a couple years beating the piss out of it every weekend.

Race type stuff, after market block, forged crank, big cam, race gas, bigger turbo etc. - 1500HP and still run a couple hundred passes and look brand new on inspection. Anything that makes anywhere near this kind of power N/A won't make 5 passes in a row with out changing springs at a minimum. We still make 30 mile 'true street' cruises with these cars. Hell, some of the TT vipers, and vettes sound barely more than a H/C/I car.

I don't have a crazy power adder setup. It is actually very simple, and my motor has stock heads, cams, and stock intake on it and it will run mid 9's all day long. I think I'll keep my setup.

i can see the argument about nitrous, but not against turbo/super charging. with nitrous it really does seem like "cheating" since as soon as that bottle runs out you are left with a turd (kind of like folks who use steriods, as soon as they get off it's back to reality). i was really tempted to just throw the bottle on my coupe since it'd have been much cheaper, and if it were a track only car that might have been fine, but since i like taking it out on the street and blowing the tires off over and over i know i would have been disappointed with nitrous. i don't think i'd use it very often on the street, i can't imagine spraying while i am just hoping onto the highway, but i damn sure will spool up the turbo 10x every time i drive it. just my 2 cents.

pretty much any old school people don't believe in power adders. Some people are just scared of what they don't understand.
It just gives them an "out" when they get there ass handed to them by someone with 100-200 lest cubes and boost/bottle...
