Damn, that's rough. RIP Donny Ray, you were definitely one of the good ones.

Supposedly (from what friends of the family have posted on facebook, take it at face value) the granpa was in an altercation with Donnie's mother, the lady that got shot in the hip, and the grandpa shot Donnie, the mom, and himself. Shit's fucked up in all sorts of ways. The grandpa was in prison '04.

The following news story disagrees with the facebook postings as to the cause of death of the grandfather.

Officials believe that the man who fatally shot local racer Donald “Donnie Ray” Crawford III died of blunt-force trauma and that Crawford’s father likely inflicted the injuries, they said Tuesday.

Crawford, 24, and his grandfather, Daniel Garcia, 74, died Saturday morning at their home in the Wagoner County part of Broken Arrow, said Wagoner County Sheriff Bob Colbert.

Garcia opened fire with a handgun in the home he shared with his daughter and her family in the 3700 block of South 273rd East Avenue about 9 a.m. Saturday, Colbert said.

Garcia shot Donnie Ray Crawford and his mother, Jodie Lynn Crawford, as she attempted to intervene, Colbert said. Jodie Crawford survived the shooting.

Donnie Ray Crawford’s father, Donald Ray “Donnie” Crawford II, also intervened, and authorities believe that he beat Garcia so severely that his hands were injured, Colbert said. Donnie Crawford was treated by emergency personnel at the scene but refused transport to a hospital.

“Mr. Garcia received quite a bit of blunt trauma from the altercation,” Colbert said. His cause of death is “not going to be a bullet wound. (It’s) going to be from blunt trauma.”

Colbert said the men started struggling over the weapon and that Garcia was fatally injured in that struggle.

The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Undersheriff Mike Stickelmeyer said authorities are still investigating what led to the shootings and what happened during the altercation.

According to Tulsa County court records, Garcia was charged with shooting with intent to kill in a 2004 dispute with a neighbor. He pleaded no contest to a modified charge of assault with a dangerous weapon and served less than a year in prison.

The family was about to head to Tulsa for the 2012 Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals races at Tulsa’s Expo Square, where Donnie Ray Crawford III had raced Wednesday and was slated to race Saturday afternoon.

He was the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals Rookie of the Year in 2007 and was a six-time Tulsa Shootout champion. His father, Donnie Crawford II, won 14 Tulsa Speedway championships in his heyday following his father, Ray Crawford’s, lead of six racing championships at the Tulsa Fairgrounds Speedway and a National Championship Racing Association Title during his career in the ’60s and ’70s.

Crawford, a student at the University of Oklahoma, aspired to become the second Oklahoman to win the Chili Bowl Nationals.

His funeral arrangements are pending with Freeman Harris Funeral Home in Tulsa.

              Well, I'll be honest

              a) what that piece of shit did was inexcusable and he will burn in hell.

              b) I take solace in knowing he was beaten to death.

I agree. Too bad it didn't happen before people got shot though.
