  • 900+ rwhp, Stock 2011 5.0..Auto...HPP going Ham

Just an update...I know alot of people are following the progress on some of the 5.0 Coyote motors that HPP is in the process of building. Mannys 9 sec stock motor 5.0 was back on the dyno this week, and its making just alittle more power. Installed the new monoblade TB, and did alittle tweaking on E85.

    2011 5.0 Bone Stock motor
    3.6 KB Polished blower kit
    Monoblade TB
1 7/8 Headers, Full 3 inch exhaust..Magnaflow Street mufflers (quiet ones)
    Stock Auto Tranny, Stock Convertor

And the key, HPP Custom E85 tuning..to tie it all together. Made a few pulls with low timing the other night just to see the gains from the TB, and the car ended up making...

872rwhp, 740rwtq! I am impressed more and more with these new 5.0 motors, they love boost just as much, if not more than the old 4.6's! Manny ended up just doing a few pulls after work, so it wasn't fully turned up. I know he is looking for 900 to 950rw out the the stock motor once he completes the tuning process and plays around with the setup. The stock auto tranny is still going strong, and hasn't missed a beats. And from what Manny says, the new TB and tuning changes makes the car drive smoother than a new Caddy. If he gets it back on the dyno today, Ill post up some new numbers and a graph...and hopefully some track numbers soon if the weather holds out....

He needs to wrap the car in the cartoon scene of Willy Coyote killing the road runner!

Mike Kelly has his 2011 at the shop, and we are in the process of building his motor/setup. We took the stock motor apart, and all the stock internals look like strong pieces from what we can see. Obviously looks dont determine strength, but nothing stood out as being a weak link. The stock rods are smaller than the Ls3 counterpart in width, but ford used some good fasteners stock..which should help. I think if you keep detonation at bay, these motors should live a good life making decent power. We are trying to sneak up on the limit slowly, and see what gives...

                Badass!!!

What is allowing these motors to handle more than previous mod motors? I thought they were using a similar powder forged rod. Is this new process of making the rods doubling the ability?

I always figured a cast crank could handle more with better main caps, as compared to 2 bolt main SBF.

Are the oil squirters saving the hypereutectic pistons from death?

Even on E-85, previous stock internal mod motors couldn't touch this level of performance.

By the looks of the rod it looks like a I beam rod and looks to be made out of good stuff I don't see the rod braking and I like that the rods are studded instead of a bolt. The oil squirters are I think so big on why the pistons are living but I think its more of mannys tuning E85 has alot to do with it to it burn's so cold it helps piston's last alot longer

Got-damn! Did they ever find out what the problem was with the manual trannys? Shit like this makes me wish I kept writing service and bought a new 5.0.

I have concluded that a large majority of the cars really aren't having this problem. I want to say the actual percentage of warranty claims on the MT-82 was around 6%.

Having said that, I also found several culprits that I plan to address as soon as I have one. These culprits, when mixed with inexperienced drivers, will cause significant issues.

                        1. The factory shifter was designed to reduce noise. All of the work that went into making it a quiet shifter allowed for a shitton of slop. You simply cannot have that much slop with a remote mount shifter.

                        2. The skip shift module. Take a person unfamiliar with how to drive a skip shift car, throw in a sloppy shifter, and you wind up with a lot of grinding as the driver tries to force the car into a gear it is trying to avoid.

                        3. The original fluid was used for it's sound dampening ability and had a lack of friction modifiers.

                        4. Not a single one of the people posting on the web about their busted transmission allowed for break in with their brand new transmission. Most folks were complaining about it happening before 2000 miles.

                        5. The hydraulic line going from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder has a choke point in it which would not allow the fluid to return properly. If a person was doing a lot of speedy shifting then the pedal would stay close to the floor and the clutch would not disengage properly.

Ford did several updates during this debacle. They changed the fluid, which needs time to warm up before any spirited driving is done. They also put a coating on the gears to keep the gears quiet while it is breaking in.

I will be purchasing the MGW shifter, upgrading the hydraulic line, running Redline MTX fluid, and unplugging the skip shift module as soon as I have my new 5.0. I will also be breaking it in properly.

My brothers 5.0 grinds going into 5th. He is a good driver. I think the slop in all the rubber bushings is to blame.
