Solid barg ahead...(if you've been following facebook, this is a repeat)
So, we finally were prepared well enough in advance, to make the trip to Baytown for the NMRA race that we could say 'we had a chance'. The only exception was that we had to add/change to a new boost controller... which goes against all I preach of 'no big changes' before a race weekend...but we struggled with the old boost controller for a long time - so it was time for a change. So, on went the AMS1000, the night before we were supposed to leave! (Thursday).... Got it installed and with my persistent desire to make some test hits BEFORE we drove all the way to baytown (just incase of parts breakage - where we were semi-close to our parts)..we went to TXR - NO one there, and we began to wonder if the track would be good enough to try out the 275's. I guessed on what settings to use in the new boost controller (I'm real familiar with it, just not on THIS car)... and we went up to make the first pass, which ended up bieng a 5.45@134 - 1.46 60', which is bad - for those in the know, power coming on fast enough to make up that kind of difference in ET vs. 60' is NO good, that's a good way to spin the tires and take a ride that you don't want to go on. Next pass, working on the 60's more than anything - the car went a 5.40@135.5 and a 1.40 60', better - and good enough to call it 'race-able'. We loaded up and headed for Baytown.
The plan was to make a test hit on their track as it was and adjust (if necessary)for the true street show. First pass, no changes was damn near a mirror image of the pass from the night before - as it should be. It ran a 5.42 and had a 1.40 60'. Ran it out the back, and went 8.3x@166 (but sounded like it bumped the limiter at 1100' or so.)
We left it alone after that and proceeded to prepare for the T/S cruise. The car performed flawlessly all weekend, made the cruise without a hitch. Came back, left the tune the same and ran 8.50, 8.35, 8.60 for a 8.48 average. (our best by over a half second) - The green coupe (forgot the guys name, but he was close with a 8.5x average) This was what we needed, it got us the #1 qualifier for the quick16 show the next day. Quick16 is the top 16 from T/S. For this one, we decided to go out with a bang - the first few passes were against much slower cars, so we decided to use that for some TNT and worked on the 60's. Only changing the launch RPM the car responded with a 1.35 60' and 5.37 through the 1/8 - which I think was the best for the weekend, but didn't run it out the back, in order to save for the next round.
FFWD to the finals (we didn't run any of the 2nd or 3rd round passes out) - we got what was expected - a run against the coupe. With the Capri in a 'higher' state of tune, i expected a big number - but he left so far out ahead of the coupe because of R/T he let off the gas at 1100 or so. Rolled through 8.4x - still plenty for the Quick16 win.
All in all, it was a good weekend for us, set some new personal bests wtih the car, no broken parts, no broken down tow rigs and a more or less free race weekend (small prize fund). We'll be back next season with the other car and hopefully a 7 second average.
Ultimately, this car will get limited to 1/8 mile racing from here on out most likely - it's simply too fast and technically not legal past 8.50's. Considering the 8.1x potential.. truthfully, it probably won't be back for this type of event.
Edit - The guy on the LH side, taking pictures in the final round video, is from MM&FF - he hung around all weekend, there's likely to be some sort of coverage in an upcoming issue.
(time trial - the F150 is actually his dad getting some warmup for brackets, he ended up going 3 rounds too)
