  • My 5.0 at MIR

Made a little road trip to Maryland this weekend. We rented MIR for the day and did some test and tune in 45 degree weather (and -1250 DA). Backstory on the car, 2012 GT, 5.0, 6 speed manual, 3.55's, stock air box, paper filter and a canned tune from VMP in Florida.

Weather was awesome, cold but no rain on Friday. I made 10 runs total, best was 12.107 @ 115, with a 1.77 short time. Driver mod still needed badly, but I'm getting there. Even managed to get a little air on a couple of runs, with the heavy ass 19's on the front.

We shared the rental with a local GM club, mostly older CTS-V's and GTO's. Even had a 5.85@254 Pro Mod show up for a little testing. Fun day.

MIR is a badass track. Can't wait to get there during some 40* temps.

60 feet above seal level, 45 degees and no humidity = some kick ass DA. It's a long haul, but the track is nice, well ran and definitely worth the trip.

I had a set of Weld skinnies ready to go, but got the clutch a little hot. Since I still have to drive home, figured I'd call it a day.

                That's a helluva wheelie for a 12-second car.

Damned nice runs man! I'm impressed.

i wish i wouldve made a trip to MIR when i lived in VA...everyone who raced at VMP and then went to MIR always dropped their times significantly due to the great DA.

Thanks ya'll! I was shocked when I saw the pics. Heavy ass 19" wheels and 3755 lb race weight (with me in the car). Not too bad for a "new" car (turned 5000 miles on the trip out here).

Yeah the two closest 1/4mi tracks for me are 80+ miles away. Another good track to run at that has "coal mine" type air is Cecil County Dragway. MIR reminds me a lot of HRP.

No shit! It amazes me how well these new cars run. I was around in the '60's/'70's, but in a lot of ways, we are in the "musclecar" era.

That is a cool damned pic!

I wished I could have run my 03 GT with some drag radials at least once.

My best time with 401 RWHP 424 RWTQ was a 12.8x @ 114 on 03 Cobra wheels with 275/40/17 street tires.
