1966 was the first Ford GT40

2000 (if im correct) was the first Saleen S7 and in 2005 was the S7TT

I was thinking about the Ford Pantera as being the first rear engine car, but then realized the first year was 1971 (STILL WANT ONE) (kit or not)

hell there's a wrecked one out between Lufkin and Nacogdoches on 59 at a body shop, there's always vettes, vipers, gt40s and jacked up trucks parked in his lot. i've seen 8 or 9 GT's parked in front of houses/in garages in that area of deep east Texas. crazy.

You mean the DeTomaso Pantera? Yeah, not a ford, but ford powered.

Is the S7 classified as a production car? Its more of a "kit" car isnt it?

However, I did forget about these. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_M12

It's limited-production, but still a production car. It's not like you buy it as a kit and assemble it.

Only the Fiero GT was a super car. I had a regular one but it was a blast to drive.

Who the hell can afford one? A reasonably successful guy can purchase a Ford GT, they are not outrageous.

But, isn't it a frame of a different car, with a body put on top of it? I don't know much about the S7 other than when I see it move(on TV), it looks like a go-kart. I've only seen one in person, and it was parked at a Lambo dealer in a shitty part of Dallas.

You could build a RCR gt40 kit car for around 50-75k...the gt40 blows away the look of the newer gt imo.
