Killed a 01 cobra..

What does everyone consider fast for a low budget street car? I ran 7.8x's with about $6000 total in car and mods (car was $3000). I definitely did not think it was fast but was happy for what it was.
Mike, what all is done to your car now? FWIW, my lx hatch with only a cobra intake, b cam, headers and 3.73's went 8.7 on street tires with my shitty driving, 8.3x's with slicks.

I far from think my car is fast. But it is quick for what it is.

The only mods my car had the last good day at the track.

2.73s - stock
Short ram intake.
Off road h pipe.
Short belt w/ ac.
Electric fans.

That went a 9.01 on 225 street tires. Slow but fast for stock.

I have since done these mods.
3.73s
Alum drive shaft.
Took off smog and ps pump.
Fixed smashed fuel lines.
Fixed shorted coil and arching plug wires, new cap and rotor.
225lph fuel pump to replace original worn pump.
Fixed a ton of vac leaks.


Next time to the track I'll have a few more mods and some slicks.

So it should run good. It feels a lot Stronger now.

Still all stock, and still slow.


Btw 7.50s or around there is quick for a street car. 6.80s are damn fast and 5.80s is beast.

Oh btw. The car was 3500 and I have about 500 in mods.

So for 4000-4500 I should rub mid 8s.

My car for whatever reason is faster then most stock foxbodys.

I beat a 260rwhp cobra.

With 2.73 gears I got a 9.01 on 225 street tires in 100+ degree weather. 2.0 60ft.

With some sticky tires and a good 60ft I'd see my car in 8.7s if not faster, because ive done other mods.

Find me a stock motor, stock suspension, street tire fox with 2.73s that runs 9.0.

I feel like if I wouldve worked the clutch more it would have been in the 8.9x. that day.

When I raced this cobra I jumped out in front and held it to 100, and then he started to pull away.

I know, as they should.

Should run faster then my car.

But this one didn't and I know of another 01 cobra that got waxed by a 02gt with long tubes. That one was driver error. He only ran 8.9

No, its just a stock daily driver nothing done to it. Dont really have any plans to race it in the near future either. It needs a little tlc

Instead of guessing what it COULD run, SHOULD run, WOULD run if I just did this or that, etc... just take it to the damn track and find out!

That is really not bad for an old stocker most of my old stockies back in the day with street tires ran anywhere from 9.0's to 9.50's there are a few exceptions my 85 had a stock motor for a bit and ran 9.0's consistently with an aod in DRIVE. When me and my friens used to run our stangs we would have been tickled to run an 8 anything. So far my best with my 302 is 7.89 on radials (motor).
