This post is getting old, the original point is long lost and I'm struggling to understand how we're arguing with physics and chiming in with extra useless and ancillery information. I have an idea. All of you out there with varying understanding of this apparently complicated concept called "grip" can each effect one change on a ficticious car. You do whatever you like to it. Change the gearing, maximize the suspension, lol transfer weight, you can turn the fucking body around backwards if you like. When you're done its my turn. And all I'm going to do is quietly unbolt the tires and have a good ol time drinking a beer watching ya'll trying to figure out how the hell you're ridiculously geared, caster and camber optimized, super duper weight transfered and whatever else voodoo bullshit excuses you've got car is gonna get down the road. Why won't it get down the road ladies? CAUSE IT HAS 0 FUCKING GRIP!2012 mustang gt. 3.31 MT

Alright jasonnoone. I'm only going to say this one time, and you just happen to catch me in a giving mood so here goes. I've worked on plenty of "outlaw" cars to know what it takes to get one down the track.
Gearing is nothing more then leverage over the tire. If you don't have torque you need TQ multiplication for leverage over the tire. If you do have tq you need less tq multiplication and leverage over the tire , because you have enough tq to pull the gear.
The chassis is what plants the tire.
Hooking up a tire has 89 % to do with the chassis, 1 % tune up, and the last most important 10% is the fucking track prep.
If the AMG had a chain on the bumber, you could have hooked on, cause your ass was getting DRRUUUUGGGGGGGGGG!

Me thinks the benz had more grip because it was engineered that way and probably has traction and stability control which I doubt were turned off, plus every benz ever made is heavy as shit so tire slip is usually not a problem...
You can control tire slip with your right foot..."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776
