I recently discovered aggressive turn type driving, never knew I would like it so much! lol.

These days, rather than going out to meets, racing and all that type stuff, I've discovered I enjoy driving the twisty country backroads MUCH more. I'd love to learn more about "turn racing".

I hope you realize horsepower is awful for "turn racing." When I used to autocross at Texas A&M, the quickest car of the day was almost always a stock Miata with race tires.

Stock mustangs, especially S197's are not too shabby when well driven. We teach those techniques that will improve the driver and decrease lap times without changing anything on the car except maybe a better brake pad and fluid.

I also build track cars on the side so I can offer a lot of good "bang for the buck" info and save you guys a ton of money by pointing you in the right direction.

One thing I will be experimenting with at the October event is going to be a Data Acquisition unit for the advanced students. If it works, we may rent them at 2012 events. Great tools for fixing bad habits.

Depends on the skill of the driver. A lot of people that don't have much experience in cornering just need to learn that the damn gas pedal isn't an on/off switch and the more power you have the more finesse you are going to need to get around the track quickly and smoothly.
That being said, my C5 Z06 had a nice balance of handling capability and power and was much easier to drive fast than my MM equipped Mustang. The C5 I have now is stock suspension and brakes with a lot more hp than I've ever had before so it definitely takes some getting used to. Got to be smooth on the throttle coming out of the corners and also have to start braking a lot earlier.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make with this post. It's not like my car makes an unmanagable amount of power nor am I considering any sort of competitions, just fun backroads driving where horsepower actually makes it alot of fun.

Ditto. My mostly stock foxbody is reasonably easy to get loose with too much throttle coming out of turns.

Actually, you are right. This thread sort of brought to light that there are some misconceptions about the actual cost of doing these types of events. If I can help dispell the myth that it costs "thousands of dollars" to do one, I'll gladly help out and show you guys the light. I had plenty of experience AutoX'ing mustangs as well and would be willing to steer in either direction. Heck, I might even help someone find the apex of the turn off road at Kennedale!

That's actually what you most commonly hear about about turn style racing is how much more expensive and hard it is on a car. But after doing so much country backroads driving lately, I'm still much more intrigued with turn racing than ever before. I would really like to learn more about it. I'm really interested in learning real car driving control too. I've even started poking around the net looking for driving schools to see what I would like to do.
