  • Datsun Backhalf fabwork (lots of pics)

Figured I would also help get the forum rolling and post up some of the work I did on my old ride. Nothing fancy and this was my first backhalf so cut me some slack. I took down my threads in the other forum so Ill put them here instead.

I wont post all the pics because I have been there and done that but if anyone wants anything in particular just check out my photobucket page, Im sure its in there. All work minus the cage was done by me.

          **EDIT**

Here is the vid of how it ran with the carb N/A. Bone stock LS1 (except for edelbrock carb and victor Jr intake), powerglide with a 1.76 first gear and 3.23's went 7.64 @ 96 (I think). I had it geared that way because a turbo was always the plan, sucked N/A though even with the transbrake.

OK got a few minutes so here is the EFI/turbo setup I did later on after I had some fun with the carb setup. This setup ran for a while but the rad mounted waterpump along with no thermostat hurt me one night tuning. It was real cold and I went to a buddies shop and figured out on the way that the motor wouldnt get over 100*. We tried cardboard on the radiator and didnt help. My datalogs showed the hottest it got was 96*. The motor spun a rod bearing on the way home and at that point I decided to sell it off.

Oh and here she is the day I sold her

I regret it very much but at the same time, with everything that had happened since then, there is no way I could have finished it and it would have put way too great of a strain on the family.

What a sweet project that turned out to be. You bought that motor from Tyler and I remember when he first told me it was going into a 240. Too bad you sold the car. I would have like to have seen it in person! I love z cars. I've had a few myself.

Yep I bought it off him and this was supposed to be a simple swap, no backhalf etc etc. It snowballed into what it was obviously though. It was a cool little ride but VERY cramped. The backhalf was hell because of the room I had to work with.

That was a lot of great work. I enjoyed watching that thing progress.

                            So, what's next?

Dont know, the wife just started a new job and she is already asking whats next. I think shes tired of me not spending all my time in the garage lol. We both agreed not another drag oriented car. Of course Ill probably drag race it but no cages or going overboard. Something I can quickly get going and drive and mod it at the same time.

Some ideas are a 93+ RX7, 98-02 WS6 trans am, C5 or C6 vette (although kind of out of my price range), maybe even a bike like a busa or a turbo harley vrod. I honestly dont know but I need to start something soon, Im going nuts lol.
