Brooks, do you use a shot peen cabinet to peen or something else?

thats what Im wondering, weld a few passes then smack it with a shot peen hammer and repeat? I have heard of it but never seen it before.

Oh and the work looks A+ as usual!

Thanks guys - Yeah, Lason, you got it right. Weld, peen, weld, peen - and at the last pass..build it up good and peen the shit out of it. It 'packs' the aluminum good and makes it dense as hell and a lot more succeptable to keeping threads in it.

I'll put it this way, when I milled the top and drilled the holes - there was a noticible difference in the effort the machine made to actually cut the material - and when it broke through the welded area and into the cast area it made a BIG difference. I thought I drilled through the intake and into the ports, but it was the difference between the filler rod and casting.

So when are we gonna see the next version of the pumkin ? The pics of that car are the reason I just bought a new car with a full cage for my next build . Scary stuff right there !

Jim, I suspect you'll see the new car in the upcoming months. I just finished up a bunch of fab work on the new turbo kit. He's getting the motor checked out, trans checked out etc.

I like the blue tape on the tap. Thats a pretty good idea.

There's a better kind of tape to use tape for that application. The blue tape is all I had at that time.

Usually, I'd use that packing tape that has fibers in it. That stuff is TOUGH as hell and works REAL good in that application. It will last a LONG time before it comes off the tap.

That fiberous packing tape is GREAT for making copies of sheet metal panels!
