Install: DMH low profile cutouts - Z06

Monday's project, install these cutouts for a board member. FWIW, this is my first experience with these cutouts - VERY high quality, worth the pricetag. If anyone's thinking of them, make sure to get the right sized radius for your exhaust (where the cutout welds to it).

I bought some new stuff for welding stainless, and this came along - a good place to try it out on....Stainless is actually pretty fun to weld, flows real easy...

Any concern about heat on the tranny? Especially if used on a road course? I know the in the Cobra IRS world, the idea of running the exhaust under the diff causes the concern of heat build up in the diff. I can only imagine the exhaust exiting right under the tranny may have a similar concern. Thoughts? Additional opportunity for a turn down?

It's a lot further away that it looks, but I don't think it's a problem. This is the ONLY place on these cars to put a cutout. If it did become a problem, it would be nothing to put a heat shield in between the cutouts and trans.

As it sits, they have a pretty steep turndown on them, the pictures do it no justice.

Any ideas about making a decent looking one for the underside of a Cobra IRS? I may make a thread just for that. I have some pretty thick stainless laying around not doing anything. (Like the IRS needs MORE weight...) But my car, one day, will see track time again and I'm concerned about the diff going BOOM.

Oh, and the requisite "Great looking welds" goes with out saying.

If you're talking about making a turndown, without the electric valve, that's cake. Depending on what material you have laying around already...

What did you use to cut the exhaust tubing?

just a normal ol' cut off wheel. Nothing fancy, take your time and it fits good.

No, Keith I don't but Justin (stangin4lyfe) probably does. I do remember they are VERY nice pieces, but pretty expensive too.
