  • Welding table question

I'd like to begin the build on a small welding table. Where would one go to have clamp slots cut into the top like the ones pictured? And if anyone has an idea of what something like this will cost will be great.

Most every place will require a DXF to cut anything like that, unless you get lucky and find some place that has something like that already on file.

For cnc plasma and cnc laser cutting, I'd go to Discount Metals in Saginaw.

Very hard to name a price, as they vary wildly. I'd expect a few hundred bucks though.

Come over to Mansfield with a case of beer, your steal, and some time and I'll let you use my hand plasma toch.

Cut them yourself with a torch if you dont mind how they look.

Get cut on plasma or laser if you want the perfect holes.

Miller sells a smaller table similar, but for the price, I would rather make my own

Instead of clamp slots Id go with drilling/tapping holes and then buying a set or two of machinists toe clamps.

About 2K from Summit, way cheaper to build one.

Yeah, I looked at those but the price sent me running. I'm also thinking about taking this design and making my own. I can live without all the fixturing holes, I think the clamping slots/gaps are more important for general welding.

Oh WOW! Now that's an affordable option. Wish the top was 1/2" though.

They offer thicker tops and even Blanchard ground. Call them or email them.

Why is everyone obsessed with a crazy thick top?

a thicker top will handle the heat better without warping on you as you weld. warping will give you untrue fitment of what your welding. I've seen this first hand on a welding table that only had a 1/4" top. halfway through the welding process the table got a bow in the middle and buddy couldn't clamp it down properly anymore. IMO, if your table is not too large the minimum thickness should be 3/8".
