I have a v6 header flange that I want you to look at. Should be simple and I will have them laser cut, but need you to machine the exhaust ports so that it goes from a 1.9" hole tapered out to a oval port. Let me know what type of file I need to send you from solidworks 2011 so you can check it out. I have it drawn already except the taper from round to oval.

I'm self taught, and it's a lot of fun to me- and if I get to make a few bucks doing it - all the better. It took me a few days to get the first simple part made and it's only a 2D drawing. The next part took about an hour. lol.

Let me get a bit more comfortable with the programming and then you're welcome to come watch.

Wow, hell of a setup for what looks like a home garage.

I thought you were collecting components to convert an existing machine. Maybe that was another member though.

I'm pretty well versed in Autodesk Inventor and Autocad (we use those primarily for mechanical engineering at Texas Tech). Could you use those files to run the CNC?

Yeah, it's my garage. I do have another mill that I was collecting parts for, but wanted the convenience of an out of the box solution. Not to mention warranty etc.

I should have them drawn up tonight. Maybe cut tomorrow, the new cutters arrived today.

Those are likely just drawings, like IGES files etc. So, in a round-about way, you could - but you'd still have to convert them to machine code and apply the post processor. (done in a CAM software)

                  what happened with this one:

A lot of you already know about this project, but most don't - it's different that what you've probably seen me post in the past, but here it is. This is a Industrial Hobbies mill clone sold by a company called Machine Tools Warehouse out of Canada. This is one of the biggest "benchtop" milling machines you can find -

did you make it and max it out and upgrade or something else?

Nope, I still own it - it's behind me in those pics. It's actualy a bigger machine. I have all of the electronics and they've been wired up. I just wanted warranty, and no troubleshooting so I could 'hit the ground running'.

I would like to see this machine do its work, I am amazed of how it works and what it can produced. I have no idea how to use one, but would like to see it up close.
With all these tools / machinery its time to get a shop dont you think?

I have a unique philosophy on this type of stuff. Right now, it's still 'hobby'. If I have to drive to a shop to get to my tools, it becomes work. At some point, I'll have a house on land with a NICE shop - until then, I have to deal with this.

I see what you mean, but sooner or later the garage will run out of room. Always thought you did this for a living. Guess not!

*Edit, where did you get the Aluminum square tubing from to hold the plexiglass? Discount Steel?

Did you get a business set up? Or just buying it out of pocket with no write off?

I think this is a "hobby" for him. So does it out of his garage.

Yeah, it all came from there. It took roughly 90'. It was around 77$.

It's setup as much as I'm going to deal with for now. I get a 1099 for the place I do a lot of work for - most of this type of stuff is written off towards that.
