  • 347 budget build for 69 coupe

    I had my 347 dyno'd a few weeks ago. I was very happy with the results. Was shooting for 400hp at the crank.



    Dyno vid and idle bid between runs.






    347 ci
    10.2 to 1 compression speed pro pistons
    185cc alum heads
    comp cam custom grind hyd roller with stock oem roller lifters
    scat 9000 crank
    scat h beam rods
    edelbrock rpm air gap intake
    demon 650 vac secondaries

    This last run produced 430/447.7 however AFR was 8.5. Previous run was perfect on AFR but we were at 34 degrees timing. Backed it down to 30 degrees and it picked up about 10hp. Didn't notice the AFR until later.

    This should be fun in my 69 coupe that weighs 2900 lbs.

    I wish I would have ran mine on a dyno prior to installation. I have 10.8:1 compression, twisted wedge ported heads, victor jr intake and a 750 double pumper with this cam. It with 1.7 rockers so I have a tad more lift



    Surely I make similar numbers to yours, although now I have an S-trim blowthru setup on there pushing 5-7 psi

      Yeah,
      That cam is nearly identical to mine minus the LSA.

      The cyl head seller listed flow data from .100 to .650 lift for my heads so I gave that info to Comp. This is the cam they came up with. Looking at other 347 builds mine did pretty good. The edelbrock package with a similar cam and E Street heads made 438 hp and 413 ft lbs of torque and the curve isn't as flat as mine.
      I am very happy and look forward to exploiting the torque curve.

        Should be a stout engine for a street car. Last 347 i did was around 10:1, afr 185 heads, comp 274hr cam 224/232 around 560 lift comp cam, had a professional products fuel injected carb style lower with their spider elbow and avcufab tb. It made 402/395 to the tires through a t56. Fun car to drive!

              About $4200 from air cleaner to oil pan. Ready to run.

              Dyno was $325
              Custom PTC converter was $375
              Trans build and beef up about $500 (not yet complete)

                The stock driving weight was 3200. Dry shipped weight was 2900.
                I have removed the ac, added alum radiator, alum heads, alum intake, fab alum valve covers, wilwood dynalite front brakes and replaced the cast iron exhaust manifolds with patriot long tubes. That is 300 lbs at least. The factory cast iron intake is close to 45 lbs.
                Plus the factory steel wheels are replaced my FR500'S.

                  Correction - 2690 was the shipped weight.

                        They sure seem way heavier than that. I'm not sure how they can get a car that much larger than a 65 to be lighter than a 65. Not trying to be mean, but I'd be surprised if that was even 2960.

                          My 68 coupe weighs 2980 on a scale without me in it. This is with a 351w, T5, aluminum heads and intake, manual brakes and manual steering, weld wheels. Stock interior with all seats and stock steel body panels and bumpers. It's probably a little more now with the 8.8 in it.

                              Suprisingly the only things that got heavier between 65 and 69 were the onset of the big blocks. The floor pans are the same dimensions, only the rocker panels and doors got thicker but that is just filled with air.

                              When I am all done I will definitely take it to the scales for a good weigh-in.
