Granted, the 4v makes power a bit easier, but if you beat on it, it's only a matter of time 'til something breaks. Might be the tranny, might be the rear end.
Your car holed a piston because either the tune was bad, or some bad gas. Otherwise it should have lived a long, happy life at that power level.

I've often wondered if it was the tune, it was tuned by the revered DMANN (if I remember right) from the old board, and he did kinda dissapear not long after.

This was on the stock long block though, with hypereutectic pistons, and the dyno graph showed showed a safe A/F.

Regardless of why it went, trannys and rear-ends don't need a bad tune to blow, and aren't cheap to fix. Especially when you're relying on Christmas and birthday money for funding, and are off at college and don't have a garage to do the work yourself. My point is, that when making higher power levels shit can go wrong when you drive it hard. Hell, even having to replace a clutch can put you in a bind in the above mentioned living situation.

I'm not saying not to to it, I just want him to be mindful that moding your only car on a limited budget can put you in a bind way worse than if it can sit in the garage for a few weeks or months. Money wasn't an issue for me, but getting to work sure was.

      • I've got a buddy that's gonna sell me some 03 cobra heads, and I'm pretty sure I can get a deal on 'em so we are back on the eaton swap path.

I plan to reuse my cams to make more power/ save $

              • Just an FYI, your car if not already a money pit will become an endless one after this...

Also, I would not do a blower upgrade w/o brakes as well. Make sure they are solid. Street driving or not, helping negate brake fade is priceless. I'm not sure what your car has on it, but upgrading to the 00R brakes was nice on my '03 GT (Mustang).

                • This kid is either going to totally botch the install, get it running and pop the motor, or get it running and tear all the other shit up or wreck it. Keep this thread updated.

                        • I'm starting to think this is 91CoupeMike's brother! Grandiose idea's that don't really ever gel, then end up in a ditch or something. This all sounds so familiar...

You know how it is, you don't know until you know and then it's too late.
