  • 92 Coupe Starts then dies.

My 92 coupe will start but immediatey dies. Once it dies, It will turnover but won't start unless I hold the gas pedal down. It seems to run fine once it is started. I swapped out the the Idle Air Control Valve thinking that would fix it but it didn't. I have not run codes to see if that turns up anything suspicious. What else should I look for?

The kicker is my 93 Cobra quit running tonight too! What are the odds of both cars breaking down at the same time! The starter is not fully engaging, it chatters. I replaced the starter last year and the battery too. I also replaced the postive batter cable thinking that could be the probem. I had a spare selenoid (it may actually be bad) but it didn't work either. I'm thinking selenoid but it could be another crappy AZ starter or possibly a lose connection.

I just tried tp jump it with the screw driver across the selenoid and it did the same thing as turning the key (chatter) doesn't that mean it is the selenoid?

check the grounds on the Cobra, else the battery is kaput. Need to check the codes on the coupe. Holding the pedal down clears a flooded condition.

Unless the battery is not working under a load it has 12.8 volts and won't engage the starter. I will have the battery checked under load. I will also check the ground wire but It was also recently replaced.

        Thanks

One down and one to go. It turns out that the less than two year old battery from Wal Mart was bad under a load. I swapped it out with an old Optima that I replaced this winter because it was losing cranking power and it started right up.

Now it is on to the solving the coupe!

have you checked fuel pressure on the coupe, put on a gauge and cycle the key, pressure should build to about 35psi and hold, if it falls immediatly you need a pump, if it spikes really high 45psi or more, check the regulator

Ran the codes and it was the ECT. Took back the IAC to AZ. Had a spare ECT in the drawer. Both cars are up and running.

Okay, well we don't speak anymore either. Our relationship was never the same after the divorce. I wish it could have been since I enjoyed working on mustangs with him.

Okay, so you knew Rick but I still can't place you. I am old you know!
