I was just assuming stroker kit because I figured I would have to rebuild this stock bottom end to hold my HP goals anyway...and everyone seems to be telling me that a stroker kit isn't really much more than a beefed up 302 bottom end kit anyway?

    Thanks man.
no problem. let me be clear when i say that a blower is still a hell of a lot of fun and made my car night and day when i picked it up after having it installed 2 yrs ago. all i meant is the money is pretty much the same when it comes to blower vs turbo and the simple fact is turbo cars make way more power on less lbs of boost. if you youtube blower vs turbo or anything else you can think of, the turbo cars always whip ass. there are several kits made for these cars that are pretty good as well as cheap. the on3 performance kit is $1500 bucks and comes with 95% of this shit you need. does come with a cheap ass chinese turbo that is sure to give out sooner or later but when it does just replace it with a better "name brand" turbo for around 600 or 700 bucks and you already have all the plumbing.

The ONLY reason i was looking at a 331 stroker is because I assumed I need a tougher bottom end for 400 RWHP, and the kits for a 302 dont seem any cheaper than a 331?
It's not the bottom end you need to worry about. It's the weak block in the later years (roller blocks.) Get a good tune and you'll be good. No point in spending ANY money on a stock block. It's still a stock block whether it's stock forged, hyper, or expensive shit. The block is the weak link but for your goals I'd say you're good to go.

Probably a wise investment to pull the heads and get a valve job/milled/new springs, buy a decent used cam, and spend the rest on everything else you'll need (gears, exhuast, some way to tune it). One thing to consider that no one will tell you on this site is that the mustang suspension and brakes are horrible in stock form. For me I would upgrade everything brake wise to at least the 1994 and later stuff and then save up for one of the Maximum Motorsport suspension packages. Don't let anyone talk you into a lsx swap. That faggotry should be made illegal and those who commit such crimes should be put to death.

Yet there are members that are "safely" pushing 500rwhp on the stock block, and at the track. With 3k to spend I'd say that goods heads and cam on a stock block will be cheap enough to allow you some suspension mods, and plenty of N/A fun. When you're ready for boost tune it safe, and be preprared to let it sit until you have enough in the bank for a new shortblock.

              WOW..this kit looks VERY interesting.

Based on what they claim, bolting this on with my AFR heads..good cam..and cobra intake..should blow my 400RWHP goal away. Is it possible to turn the boost WAY down to stay around my goal, and hopefully make the whole thing a little more driver friendly and last longer? I would love he sound of a turbo even if I am barely tapping into its potential..I am a big fan of "noisy" blowers, etc. so I would love a little "wastegate" action going on.

Just out of curiosity...aren't ls1 motors like really expensive? especially doing a swap? How could that possibly get me 400 RWHP cheaper than a pushrod motor using used parts?

Anyway..getting off topic...really hoping for some people with this combo who can chime in..anybody?
Not any more than building a ford engine. Get a truck 6.0 and you're close. And who gives a damn about brand loyalty?

I myself, am currently building almost exactly what your describing. I have a complete "fresh" stock motor w/ a t-5 and it will be turbo.

Over time i plan to review every bolt on i do until i break the block in half.

I plan for 450rwhp all day long with ps, a/c everything!

Stock k member poly bushings, new balljoints etc

Like the others are saying, spend the money throughout the car or focus on one thing.
                  One day at a time.

So maybe I should start a new thread....but now I am thinking maybe just a 302 rebuild and Turbo.

Anyone have advice on those kits from summit? Would they hold that on3 Turbo kit?

Anyone using that kit wanna chime in on what I could expect? Anything to look out for, or is it really bolt on and go?

                    Thanks again everyone.

I made 420rwhp with stock heads, cam, cobra intake and a turbo... HOWEVER, regardless of what kit you get, you'll most likely burn through $3k with a quickness...

                        Interesting..couple things:

                        1. Can you explain a little further on what you mean about the money?

                        2. based on these numbers, I might skip the AFR heads and stick with my gt40p heads and instake...I am wondering if that will work though since I have been told exhaust hooks up differently to gt40p heads, do you know anything about that?

                        3. How bad was the install and setup? Lot of computer problems?

                        4. How friendly is it to drive? are you happy with it?

If you don't buy those afr heads I'd like too,

If I were you I would put the afr heads, a shelf cam then spend some money on upper and lower control arms. Tires and some gears
