I have a 331 Stroker, a SVO block with AFR 165 Heads, Long tubers, Lightning MAF, and a nasty cam. I have all the specs if you want them. I am pumping out 389 RWHP, and 388 lb ft of torque. No turbos, no superchargers. I road race and this thing has held up for over 4 years.
Let me know if you want the specs and I will share.

I would love that. I don't plan on this car seeing the track much...it is mostly a weekend car to go cruise with buddies and stuff...but I want it to sound mean and have at least a little bite with the bark.
Its allot more than just HP and Torque.....chassis and suspension need to be set up as well. Getting the power down efficiently will bring big gains.
Understood. Lets just assume I will be freshening up the suspension. I dont really plan on a track car..I just want to hit those HP goals more than I am really worried about the actual ET it will run.

If you're gonna put a blower on it... Just use what you have and save your money. You'll make over 400rwhp with just a strim, 42# injectors, 90mm lightning maf, gss340, and a tune. Maybe add an Anderson b21 blower cam, some cobra 1.7 rockers, and a new pioneer SFi balancer.
So I am getting some answers all over the place lol. Turbo is not an option...the kits seem expensive, lot of upkeep, and it looks like I would lose A/C.
My main thing is whether I NEED the 331 kit orbnot with this combo?
And whether a cheap 331 or stock bottom end would hold a vortech down the road if I added it.

fyi to give you honest advice, i own a supercharged car and if i knew then what i know now, i would have never chosen supercharger over turbo. they are superior in every way imo. they arent that expensive if you know where to look and will definately be in your budget if a stroker kit and/or blower is. plus you keep ac and not sure what you meant about upkeep. if anything blower are more upkeep if you are throwing belts all the time or something.
but if you insist on the blower, you dont need the stroker to make the power you want.
hope this helps
With 3K it is going to be hard to get all the parts together to have everything you want. I would run a leak down test on the exploder motor and if it tests good, run it. Probably a wise investment to pull the heads and get a valve job/milled/new springs, buy a decent used cam, and spend the rest on everything else you'll need (gears, exhuast, some way to tune it). One thing to consider that no one will tell you on this site is that the mustang suspension and brakes are horrible in stock form. For me I would upgrade everything brake wise to at least the 1994 and later stuff and then save up for one of the Maximum Motorsport suspension packages. Don't let anyone talk you into a lsx swap. That faggotry should be made illegal and those who commit such crimes should be put to death.

Thanks..after a couple days I am finally getting some good advice without just "throw a 460 big block in it and run" stuff.
I should have mentioned the car was being worked on before my buddy had to sell it cause he lost his job. It already has 3.92 gears..which with a t-5 I hope will be okay for some moderate interstate use. It already has exhaust from motor back..I just need to provide headers.
It does have stock brakes and suspension. I was going to do a brake upgrade down the line since I plan on teaching my wife how to drive a standard with this car...but the suspension I wasn't as extremely worried about since I dont drag race at a track..and the only fun it might see will be 30+ mph rolls on the interstate playing around with my buddies 66 stang.
He is actually the reason for my HP goals..he had a 408 stroker built with moderate parts and is estimated in the 450 HP flywheel range...I want to stay with him.
I am starting to think maybe I should skip the stroker, and just go turbo or blower (i really want to sell the gt40p and get the AFR..to future proof a little, even it it runs me slightly over my budget). I just figured that this stock bottom end wasn't going to hold anything near the power levels I wanted to make?

Can you explain a little more why you are unhappy with the blower?
I thought anything turbo related would have to be custom made for these cars?
I was just assuming stroker kit because I figured I would have to rebuild this stock bottom end to hold my HP goals anyway...and everyone seems to be telling me that a stroker kit isn't really much more than a beefed up 302 bottom end kit anyway?

Well...others are saying this same thing. I must be mistaken, I was under the impression turbo kits for these cars are custom made and very expensive (I was looking at some used vortech kits in the $1300 range).
The ONLY reason i was looking at a 331 stroker is because I assumed I need a tougher bottom end for 400 RWHP, and the kits for a 302 dont seem any cheaper than a 331?
you can stroke it if you want. your problem is if I recall correctly, you said the motor was out of a 2000 explorer? those have hypershittick pistons. all you need is a 302 out of an 87 to 92 (dfwm correct me if the years are wrong) and you'll be forged already at which point the block will be the weak link at 550 ish rwhp.
