  • Need help with my DD

I washed my engine at the carwash in my 95MX6. It immediately sputtered out of the carwash and got better somewhat, now it occasionally runs rough and then smooth out. It will be running smooth but if I shut off the engine it will run rough and smooth out after a while, the only code I get is the rear o2 sensor, but it is about 2 months old. Maybe water in the wiring? Should I start tearing into it or wait a few more days? I already checked plug wires and other connections around the intake.

remove the distributor cap, most likely you'll find moisture. Spray Wd-40 in the cap, let drain and wipe out. Most likely you'll be good to go.

Didn't see any in there but will probly go ahead with the wd40. Hopefully it goes away since I'm supposed to trade for a truck Saturday

When you shut it off it probably was sucking water in somewhere as it cools and then running rough until the water dries. It should go away after you drive it for a bit if that's the case.

Doesn't seem like a cylinder misfire, but maybe timing advance/ retard issue? After a few secs it will smooth out at idle but rough/hesitate upon acceleration then smooth out about3-4k rpm and return if I come off the pedal for a while to slow down, maybe got in the disty through the wire connections? Iwill air it out and see.

Water probably made it into the spark plug tubes. Driving it like that will ruin the plugs.

Sounds like paying someone an hour labor to check it out will save you money in the long run. Diagnosis over the Internet is a tough thing to do.

cold water shot on that hot O2 could have hurt it , have you checked the airbox and made sure you didnt soak the filter
