  • jeep cherokee 4.7 L ?

well a guy down the street gave me a 2000 jeep cherokee thats been sitting for a yr. He parked it becouse it started to knock. Well I got it to my place and had to get a key made becouse he lost his . Got it started today but the engine know hes talking about sounds more like lifters or valve train noise. It runs great and has good oil pressure according to the factory guage. the noise sound like its coming from the driver side valve cover. Anyone have experience this before?

If memory serves correct they have timing chain tensioner problems if the oil hasn't been regularly changed.

Bought one last march, sold it in september. Decent mileage, ok power but known as throw away engines.

          Is it 2wd or 4?

I would put a for sale sign on it. You got it for free, your making money.

                They drop valve seats constantly.

They also have been known to break valve springs and flatten cam lobes in the dakota, same engine Im sure

They'll also detonate and burn holes in the pistons if you ignore that pinging sound.

Sounds like the disclaimers they read off on the bottom of prescription drug commercials.

Try Daimler. Mercedes engineers designed these, the 2.7s and the 3.7s. They'd be decent engines in European climates with regular synthetic oil changes. Drive them here though and change the oil when it starts rattling and they are pieces of crap.
