This is how they ID their heads.

well, if it's running at 230 degrees, it will likely detonate worse...

I think the tune was/is fine. I plan on ordering one of Eric's chips once I identify all the stuff on the car. It has the blue stripe injectors, but I need to figure out which fuel pump, turbo and front mount setup is on the car first. I am traveling alot and can only see/work on it one day a week, but have learned a lot on Turbobuick.

Our iron heads have been ported and had the water jackets filled/drilled, heat riser filled and had the chambers polished. Honestly, if someone offered me $300, I'd let them go today as I honestly can't identify what we have or what springs are in it.

We already ordered the aluminum Champion GN1's from Cottons with valve springs setup for flat tappet cam. I think they are already on the truck headed this way. I'd love to do a roller cam but honestly, we are trying to keep this project under $10k and we are right at that number with all the door/window seals, steering wheel and other stuff we have bought. I might look into it later but the general idea is for a weekend car and maybe sell it in a year or two. if we keep it longer, I will probably do an intake, turbo, injectors and a roller cam later.

The previous engine builder didn't torque anything right. The heads lifted off the gaskets with ZERO effort. I could actually spin the head studs out by hand. There were a lot of coolant leaks at the heater tubes as well and I will need to replace the heater core as the tubes are bent to shit. I ordered new stainless heater tubes and fittings and "S" pipe so most of these issues will be taken care of. Now to figure out how to keep the oil pan from leaking! LOL!

Hope to order the chip Monday and have it all running next weekend!

Not a bad looking GN from the pic you posted. These things are notorious for blown head gaskets (I've blown a few). What part of town you in? From stone stock its not too difficult to get them into the 12's with only a small handful of mods...adj. FP reg, downpipe, chip, good gas, traction. Once you reach the 12's it starts to cost a little money and parts. It would help greatly to know whats already done to the car. Eventually I will put mine back together and drive it again. Eventually.

            A. GN1's are damn good heads for power but I know in the past they had serious problems with cracking and with the rocker shaft studs pulling out of the head.
            B. Going roller vs. flat tappet is seriously worth it for longevity but not necesarry for a stupidly fast car. I believe there are more than a few turbo Buicks running 10's on stock cams.
            C. depending on what turbo is on it (it already has a FMIC and the turbo is prolly significantly upgraded) you may be very happy what it runs once its tuned. TA-49, TE44, PT51 or PT52 will easily get you into the low 11's with a good tune.
D.....you will probably NEVER get the oil pan to NOT leak. Pressurized motor.

yes they should...but they shouldn't pull out when the engine is spinning at 4500 rpm under boost.

sorry forrest, they are wet studs in the water jackets...sealer they used was shit and likely what was pouring out of the block.

Here is the short list of what I think it has....

aftermarket 3"+ down pipe with external wastegate and blowoff valve. FMIC that is about twice the size...think it has eastern performance on the tank sides. Aftermarket turbo with a turned "neck" that is about 3" then goes down to about 2.5" and bolts on. Still need to look it over and get numbers of it...it's a garrett and that is all I saw in my 30 seconds looking at it. Has the accufab FP regulator, 43# injectors and I am considering the 60$ mototrons as there is a chip/injector deal for $385 and I know they are new and good. has stock MAF, stock TB, head studs, ARP rod bolts but no main studs, motor was built less than 300 miles ago and does look it. It has the hot wire fuel pump kit so I am thinking there is a decent pump in it but will have to drop the tank to find out. has an Art Carr 200R4 and is dirty, but probably about 10k miles on it.

Interior looks about 5 years old. Needs a steering wheel and a driver side seat cover, window seals and seat belt anchors. It's missing the driver side seat belt anchor which makes me think at some point in time, it has a 4/6 pt cage and a harness. Might explain the new carpet. Dash is perfect with no cracks. all the guages work. Needs window tint as the top of the rear seat back is a little faded...dark tint would be enough to hide it. Third brake light has "ud lose" on it and I'm thinking of just ditching the 3rd brake light to have a full sheet of tint in the back.

Even with putting the aluminum GN1 radiator and dual fan setup, heads and all the little stuff we bought, I think we are "all in" for about 10,500 right now. Should make for a fun weekend car and there are no plans to make it crazy. Just something the girlfriend can drive to the grocery store to get milk! It's actually HER car so I'm just the wrench that gets to drive it every now and then!

                  Thanks for the info guys!

Actually, looking at your sig....school me on the different yoke/pinion seals on the GM 10 bolts. We put an "updated" yoke/seal on her camaro only to find the housing is f'd. Got a new one today out of a 2002 firebird and want to put the updated yoke on it, but need a new seal to match and the parts store morons have blank stares....

                      Thanks!
