  • Any GN owners on the board?

If so, school me on the "what to look for's" when buying. We found one for a damn good deal and are picking it up tomorrow. Very clean, new built longblock and looks like a different downpipe. Shop acquired the car when the owner couldn't pay his bill and doesn't know much about the car.

Tell me what to look for that might run me off from the sale.

    Gracias!

I got one also. Mine will be up for sale soon. Got to many toys. Look for all the typical rust in the quarters and floors. Maybe run a carfax? Also check the vin to make sure it is a real grand national. I believe it will have hp in the vin somewhere

It's the real deal. However, after letting it idle a lot today, it sprungeth a coolant leak. Somewhere on the back side of the motor on the passenger side and was running down the starter and onto the crossover pipe. Not the heater core. Suffice to say I'm pissed, but given how clean the car is and the deal we got it for, I'm not going to complain.

I'm thinking head gasket as it heated up the upper hose pretty darn fast but seller claimed it had a "new motor" and he might have f'd up the intake gasket or something. I'll diagnose it more this weekend when I have a chance but any ideas would be appreciated.

I do know it has an aftermarket downpipe and blow off valve and makes 15lbs of boost. Tranny has a NICE converter in it and it hauled ass to about 95mph...but I have no idea of how it's tuned or what else has been done yet. Might have bit off more than I can chew right now for time as I am still putting our other two cars together but it would just be boring working on just two cars right?!

man, no shit... unless you're racing in a class that disallows turbos, you're doing it wrong

built the current motor right out of high school bout 12 years ago, been collecting parts for the current motor for about 4 years now. I'd throw a different set of pistons to the combo and do a blow thru setup, but i've got about 9 bill's in a custom set of Ross's with rings and pins. With little hope of getting close to what I've got in them and a combo around 10:1 it's going to get a bigger shot of juice and call it good.

Figured I would post a pic. This was 10 minutes after we got it and was filthy. It's the only pic I have with it in one piece!! LOL!

Pulled the motor and trans and stripped it to the shortblock fixing the blown head gaskets. Aluminum heads should arrive along with a long list of parts this week and hope to put it together next weekend.

The iron heads on the car look like champion ported irons, but since the car has a front mount intercooler, we are upgrading to aluminum heads and big ass radiator and dual fans to keep it cool so I am not doing head gaskets every 3 weeks!

If they are champion ported irons, you should list them on the lspbc board and recoop some of your cash.

I'm unsure if they are but they have the same filled in areas and are ported rather nicely with the chambers rather nicely smoothed.

I've read that champion marks their heads but unsure how I would decipher what is stamped on the end of each head.

definitely would like to recoup some cash. I think we just dropped $3k in misc parts, heads and radiator!

If the motor is out, now is a good time to swap out to a roller cam. Tha flat tappet cams are prone to wiping lobes and contaminating bearings in these engines. It never ends! What heads did you order & from who? I've had good luck with Cotton's,and Hartline Performance.
