For all you coupe owners, how did you fabricate a new floor in the trunk after cutting out the spare tire well?

In my fairmont which is similar i cut the tire hull completely out went to the junk yard and found a flat hood, cut it to fit put window weld (silicone) completely around the hole and riveted it in and mounted my battery tray and fuel cell to it ,Looks and works great.Last edited by dragfairmont351; 04-07-2011, 04:00 PM.1979 2 door boxtop 351w and a C4

i Don't have pics on hand but here is a friends Fairmont that did the same thing just in stead of rivets he welded the flat piece of metal in (hood).Last edited by dragfairmont351; 05-20-2011, 04:12 PM.1979 2 door boxtop 351w and a C4

OP, what you are asking to do is VERY easy. The spare tire well comes out with minimal effort with a simple drill motor and a unibit. All you have to do is drill through the spot welds and eventuall it will come out easily. The seam sealer is a pita some times.
Also, Sheet steel and aluminum are cheap when purchased at a metal yard (NOT home depot, lowes etc). I'd venture a guess that it's inline with buying a salvaged hood, maybe cheaper.
The sheet aluminum, steel or whatever along with some 1" square tubing - add a little bit of creativity and you'll be done in a day or less.
