  • Anyone else ever have this fucking annoying problem?

Got some new speakers for my truck and a brand new alpine head unit. The new head unit has a cut off switch if there is a short. The speaker's frame is made out of metal, as is the rear part of the cab where they mount. So now I somehow have to insulate the speaker before I can even mount it. GRR. The head unit just never comes on unless the speakers are not touching metal with their metal frame. I'm going to have to cut some kind of plastic outline for the speakers before I can even mount them. Gets on my nerves. Anyone else have a head unit that did this?

Sounds like the speakers have a direct short. IT should never matter what the frame of the speaker is touching.
    Whos your Daddy?

Maybe they do. I just know that if I touch either one to the metal of the cab where they are to be mounted, the stereo shuts off. Comes back on and starts playing music again the instant I lift the speaker up off the metal it was touching. I called alpine and they assured me that I needed that feature, lest my radio be damaged by a short someday.

Its always gay when someone post about how a swap project is gay and they can't even manage to install a radio correctly. Waste of space.

Sounds like they have a short(such as the positive is touching the speaker basket).

But if you really must...just wrap electrical tape around the metal of the cab, then lay the speaker on top of the tape.

When you screw them in place, won't the screws ground them out anyways?

You would think so since that will make it metal to metal again. There is a ground issue or something somewhere.

Sound to me like he has his polarity backwards or the head unit is jacked. Considering that the coil of a speaker creates somewhat of a short its feasible.
