        x2

Done that twice, 2 different places that were cheap on their price, 2 different motors. 1st motor lasted 10,000 miles and started burning oil bad. 2nd motor went 2,000 miles and lost compression in 3 cylinders

I always thought Morgan and Sons was BIG $$$$ btw. Are they pretty reasonable these days?
All the problems I had with my car were machine shop related. I took it to Morgan and Son to get all the machine work done on the new motor and i couldn't be happier. All the clearances checked out PERFECT, he bored it, installed a sleeve, balanced it from external to internal, installed new coated cam bearings and got me the rod bearings I was having a problem finding, when she called and told me how much I was like "are you sure?" she said yea why? It was way cheaper than I expected. I don't remember how much now but it was real reasonable.

Im about to drop off my C460's with him to put together.

My tranny guy, who does great transmission work, recommended Jamie Wells in Midlothian for my Vette. Wells machine and head I think. He builds a lot of sprint car motors from what I understand and sounded well versed on the phone. His prices were very fair also. My guy and his dad who builds street rods has used him many times for custom builds. Maybe someone on here can chime in on him.

Oh, I'm NOT getting the engine done by him! Getting a FRPP short block. Just trying to get a good price on head work.

He won't be working on my lawn mower motor
His reputation is off Dennis Wells Racing Engines in Duncanville, (no relationship) lifetime work, sprint cars, super modified, promod and drag engines, 44 years of engine and chassis dyno work.

I had no clue just know he came recommended but thanks for the info. I figured if I threw it out there some one would chime in that knew. I do know of Wells in Duncanville he has built one motor for me many years ago in a Blazer. I grew up in that area and my uncle owns all that area back there. When I was 16 I had a KX500 that kept blowing up pistons so I ordered a new sleave from LA sleave. There was only one place that did that kind of work in Garland and that guy was an ass. I walked into wells with my cylinder and asked if he could punch out and sleave a motorcycle cylinder. He looked at me kinda funny and said he didnt have anything that small, then looked at the cylinder in my hand and said holy shit I might have something for that. Two days later he called me and it was done for about half the price of anywhere else. Made a young lad very happy to have his thumper back up and running. LOL

Don’t skip out on machine work, it’s most important part of any build.
I’ve known Bud Morgan for about twenty years, him and his dad thought me basically everything I know and many years ago I used to work for them off and on. I drove their cars and customers cars for years and did all the building on my own motor and the one I was driving. I have seen plenty of motors come through there that were originally built by other people.
Some of what I saw was pitiful and just stupid shit.
I would recommend Bud to do anything you need and if and when I decide to build me another motor he will do the machine work on it regardless of price. I’m very picky and I know it will be done right.

I won’t post anything negative about anyone shop except for Kim Barr, the dude is a joke professionally and personally and I’m really amazed he’s been able to stay in business this long.

Someone posted about having a problem some work with Metroplex machine, I’ve known Rick for many years and have seen plenty of his work. I really have a hard time believing the motor not lasting was caused by something he did and even then if you took it back to him I’m sure he made it right.

Dennis wells and Max long have both been around for many years and both do good work.

I have no comment about Arlington machine or Wayne Calvert
