  • Windsor/C4 swap into a 99-04 mustang

    Has anyone here done this swap ? I am considering putting my motor/trans out of my foxbody into my 02 GT.

    I am assuming someone makes a k-member for the motor swap, but I am wondering about the trans mount, where to put the shifter at inside the car, does anyone make an after market auto-trans shifter, etc.

    Also, what are some other obstacles I might be looking at with this swap.

    So if you have any info or where I might go to get info on this swap, I sure would appreciate it.

    You need to make an adapter plate for trans mount to bolt to. you can arrange the stock shifter to work or but a aftermarket shifter to cleaverly work inside the factory location. And unless you are dead set on making most factory guages work you'll need to make or buy gauges with necessary guages. You will prolly go faster if you remove all the unnecessary stuff too.

    I did it to Chris Carlstroms car but used all aftermarket guages. And 94-5 k member. Not that difficult just time consuming to do right.

        Slownmbta - yours is still a mod motor right ? What did you have to do for the trans mount ? Custom driveshaft

          Yeah mine is still a 4.6. I used the stock crossmember (removed the stock mount, and put the turbo 400 mount on it) and I had a custom driveshaft made. Was like $330 or something. I'm sure all that is different for a pushrod motor though

            Gotcha , thanks. Not completely sure I'm gonna do it yet.

            I figured I would spend somewhere around 3-4k For the swap, IE chassis upgrades, rearend, suspension , etc. Just trying to figure out what all is involved.

                  2000 6 cyl car used a QA-1 K-member it has a 302 based stroker and a glide.

                    So that's a completely different car than I remember. Didn't u have a white 95 with 351 with a fogger ?

                      94 GT with a 347 C-4 fogger. We made a few upgrades to the motor it has a 4.30 gear and a 29" tall tire even with a controller it was undrivable with the c-4 the glide calmed it down enough to get it down the track.

                        So on the 2000 Stang , how much of a pain in the ass was the swap ? Where did you mount the shifter ?

                          If I had to do it over I would of bought a nice Roller or at least a V8 car. Stock console is still in car and shifter is in stock location.

                            How much weight will you pick up doing this? What is weight difference going from a fox coupe to a 99+ chassis?

                            Sounds like a cool swap to me, hell you can pick up a clean 99+ gt cheaper than a clean coupe, and it will be a better "tighter" car.

                              not sure on the weight yet, looks like they weigh around 3400 but I need to chekc again.
