  • Fox paddle defrost switch..

    3 prongs on the back.

Here's my idea, just need to figure the switch out.

Going to put the hatch switch in my coupe and use the defrost side to switch a relay on and off for my electric fans.

    No more toggle switch.

No I do not want it wired to it works with temptature or when the key is on. I want to be able to control when they come on, with or without the key being in the on position. Mainly so I can cool the car when it's off.

Any diagrams on how This switch works? It's a bump switch, it bumps on and bumps off? Or how does it work?

    Thanks!

Also, is it possible to use the fog light switch to arm a nitrous system?

Not sure how all that works, I know I've always seen it on s toggle switch, so I can't imagine why it wouldn't work.

    Gotta keep it stock yo!

On my '92 GT, one of the wiring looms under the battery tray has 1 wire splitting into two Yellow stripe orange wires for the fog lights. That would work for NOS arm. I used to use a "remote" wired starter switch for my system. It had an on/off switch and a push button "start".

How does the defrost switch work on your gt?

I had it wired to my fans but the fans only come on when I hold the paddle down.

        That is wired direct.

        Purple wire - ground
        Grey/blue - power to fan
Blue w/ orange and yellow stripe - power source.

That's how I had it wired.

You can wire the temperature sensor so it's always powered, so it'll run the fans when the car's off. It's just a thermocouple. Then you don't even need a switch. That's by far the easiest solution.

I want a switch, that way would work and be the "best option" but I'd rather have a switch I can control.

from what i understand you would use an impulse relay to accomplish this.

with an impulse relay constant power is not required to the coil to get the switched side on or off, a momentary switch (like the defroster) would switch the relay on, and hitting it again would switch it off.

It won't work ! It works great for a horn button, by its self.
You will need some type of relay that will let the power stay on when
You release the button. I have used the flasher paddle switch for an ignition switch before. You will have to use an ohm meter to find which wires complete the curcuit through the switch.
                Good luck !

That's awesome, where would I did one of theese?

Just yank a defrost relay from the Gt I have and wire the fans through that?

Also, this switch appears to have a light, does it illuminate or suppose to?

I'll need to wire a indicator light as well if not.

holeshot.. is there a diagram on how you wired that for your ignition switch? did it basically just bypass the clutch switch so you could turn the car on without the pedal depressed?

Nick: if you have an ignition box (MSD or others) the power on wire
Runs through the switch then to the battery or key on hot wire.
Push it on, ignition on !
Pull it off, well you know.
Who needs flashers on a hotrod ???? Lol

From what understand you wire it like any relay. First take your switch with a multimeter set for continuity, see which two prongs make a connection when you depress the switch. Then you can with use the switch to drop a ground to the impulse relay or have it hooked to a fused power source. Then you simply wire the impulse relay as normal with a large enough wire to run the fans to the relay from a fused positive source and from the relay to the fan. When you send power (or ground) to the relay it either makes the connection (connecting the two large gauge wires turning the fans on) or it discoonnects the two wires if they are already connected. Wiring an indicator would be simple, t into the hot wire coming out of the relay and run it to an led or bulb. I would highly suggest only using this as a manual switch and having a thermostatic switch for normal operation, only takes forgetting once or letting a sober buddy drive you home to blow a headgasket or worse, TRUST ME!

Where would I find one of theese relays?

The factory defrost relay has a timer, when it gets hot enough it switches off, atleast thats the way I understood it.

What car, or where would I go about finding a relay like this?

What's the proper name for the relay I'm looking for called?

I'll try and find one somewhere..
