  • Chevy Tahoe - trans / power supply problems?

It's already at the dealership getting looked at, but I want to see if anyone here has experience with anything like this.

It started a couple weeks ago. While sitting completely stopped at a light sometimes there would be a solid 'thud' in the drivetrain, like the trans was falling out of gear then reingaging.

Then when my gf picked me up at the airport last Friday she said that on the way there, while cruising on the highway, the doors unlocked and locked very quickly, the drivetrain would jerk, the clock reset itself and the check engine light flashed, but then it drove fine.

It did it again while I was driving home from the airport.

My first thought was something electronic. A drivetrain jerk and the doors unlocking and relocking sounds like the trans flashing to park for a split second then back into drive

Today, I was getting ready to dial the dealership to schedule an appt and it did it again, except over and over and over, whereas in the past it was just once then not again for another couple days.

Today it was jerking, unlocking/locking the doors, the speedo was jumping like it was losing signal or power supply, and the gear indicator would flash some random stuff.

Luckily I caught this one on video.

Anyone know wtf this could be?

I'm guessing there's an issue with the wire harness somewhere.... ever have any squirrels or mice in your garage?

      Two separate problems

      - thud from rear is the slip yoke is binding when you stop. The rear suspension settles making the slip yoke pop back in. 07 newer covered under powertrain warranty. There is a bulletin to lube with a new synthitic grease.

      - the other problem can be several things but if I was putting money on it I would say negative battery cable has too much resistance.

If you are anywhere close to Richardson bring it to me at Reliable Chevrolet.

My 07 Silverado did this for a few weeks before the transmission went completely to shit. This happened with just under 40K miles. Thank god for 100k warranty.

Sounds lame because it shouldnt do it at all, but ive got mine to almost stop doing it pretty much all the time by the way you roll up to a stop, slow down normally, but roll up slow the last couple feet(not really slow like an asshole, but dont stop real short/quick) gives the trans time to kick back down and suspension doesnt unload stopped and make it clunk.

Like gearhead said too, the fix is to lube the slip yoke first, (it will continue) then replace the slip yoke, not sure if its actually a upgraded one or not though.

The battery cables do suck ass too, pretty easy fix though.
